Last week we had a fine stay in the Fashion Hotel. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a 24-hours reception. Breakfast was tasty and enough, for an affordable price. Other reviews says no hot food, but there is a microwave and the lovely girls of the breakfast staff are always helpful and smiling. Bread, croissants, cereals, cheese, meat, pancakes, yogurt, different kinds of tasty cakes, two or three different fruits (oranges, bananas, strawberries), orange juice, tea and coffee. It would be fine for the breakfast girls when there would come a dishwasher! You can choose a room at the street side with a nice view, but then you will hear some noise of the street (take ear plugs with you or buy them in a pharmacy). Or you can choose a smaller and quiet room at the other side. Some windows close a bit difficult. The rooms are clean and in a Moroccan style. For us the beds were perfect, a bit harder than normal. We love the roof top and pool, it was a great place to relax. Towels for the pool are for free. You can order a drink (also alcoholic drinks) at the pool bar. Not in all restaurants you can order alcoholic drinks, and they are mostly high-priced. But we did not miss them and we loved the fruit smoothies! In all restaurants the prices are fixed, you cannot bargain. The hotel is in a good location. It is in a more modern area of the city but only about a 20 minute walk along a straight road to the medina. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Very good restaurants were: Café Lobo, l’Adresse Gueliz, l’Escapade and more restaurants at the Avenue Mohammed V. In Morocco you have yellow petit taxis (for 3 passengers) and yellow grand taxis (for 4 till 6 passengers). We took the yellow grand taxis and before we got in we told the driver we would pay 50 dms. Mostly that was ok, only when you wanted a taxi after 20.00 h you had to pay about 70-80 dms. To and from the airport a grand taxi is more expensive, about 100-120 dms. We booked the taxi from the airport via booking.com. When you ask the hotel staff to call a taxi, you have to bargain with the hotel staff. In the souks and shops you also have to bargain, and also when you will ride a camel. We decided not to ride with a carriage with horses: we did not see that the horses got water and it was already hot (29 oC) in February .... Advice: Only drink bottled water. Do not take ice cubes, fruit from a stall outside, check your food is thoroughly cooked. Check the bill in a restaurant and when you are satisfied, give a tip of 8-10%. .When you make photos or films of people who are dressed in a red outfit or people who are making music, having snakes or monkeys, etc. you have to realize that you have to pay a small gift. When someone starts to make a painting on your hand, take your hand away if you do not want this. Even when they say it is for free, but if you do not take your hand away, they count on paying. When someone seems to be so kind to show you the right direction, tell him that you are not interested and walk to the other direction. When the man is away, you walk again to the right direction. They count on paying when they have showed the right direction. This is understandable because the unemployment is about 10% in Morocco. Do not buy your souvenirs on the first day, but look around firstly to compare products and prices. In the big department stores and some shops in the modern area of the city the products have fixed prices, for if you do not like to bargain.…
