We enjoyed our stay in May 2012. Very professionally run, staff were hand picked and helpful. The restaurant is great and breakfast with very good choice. the hotel has lots of charm and short rickshaw ride to Thamel for shopping. Not cheap, but worth it if you want a good rest.

Have been coming to the Shanker for 10 years and found during our stay last week that the same staff still remain. This demonstrates the committment of the management to its staff which in turn creates a friendly and professional atmosphere. The hotel is a converted palace and retains its Newari architectural features. It has recently been renovated to a... More

I stayed at the shanker hotel for a total of 9 nights spread across one month, in 4 different rooms. Each room was laid out differently, but all were comfortable and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the gardens made a welcome and peaceful respite from chaotic Kathmandu City. Breakfasts were excellent and good value cocktails in the... More

Hotel Shanker looks amazing from outside and I was expecting luxury but although very pleasant it was standard International Class in the rooms but no complaints. what I am saying is that the outside looks more palatial than the interior. Staff very helpful. Very nice bar serving snacks. Good to return there to sit in the lovely garden after the... More

We stayed at the Shanker Hotel in Katmandu for 3 days. It was an amazing oasis away from the hustle & bustle of Thamel and the busy roads. But only a rickshaw ride from the centre of action. The manager & staff were particularly helpful and very efficient & friendly. Excellent buffet breakfast and dinner providing variety for all tastes.... More

Everything in the hotel was nice. I had friendly and nice speaking Driver from Hotel. The foods in the reception were great. Specially small lever workers were friendly and honest; I liked their behavior to me. I would recommend if you can afford here....nice place!

I have stayed a total of 5 nights in this hotel. The hotel staff, Ramesh was very honest to us when I inquired whether booking from agoda or direct with the hotel. Which does make a difference to us. We were given an upgraded room that is very huge and nice for our 1st 2 nights. However, on my returning... More

The hotel is nice but the two receptionists tried to steal our money. They gave me a bill which was far larger than it should of been and tried to confuse me because I was paying in a foreign currency. After anout 30 minutes of arguing she finally charged me the correct amount. She was claiming my bill was $60... More

We are well aware of this account. We apologize for the rude behavior of the reception staff. The root cause of that problem lies in exchange rate fluctuation. Our policy and every hotel's policy in Nepal is to Quote the rate in US Dollars. If the rate is quoted in dollars the guest will pay in dollars equivalent to day... More
