Dear readers, We had been the new empire hotel, in Bangkok for 2 nights and its truely very old school hotel, they have no proper shower system only dripping in the toilet very dirty and dull, bedding matress is hard like stone! According to their staff they said the owner of the hotel did not willing to renovate the hotel anymore and if someone suggests any idea regarding to renovation he would get pissed off.

I was passing through Bangkok on my way to Cambodia. My friend took me to this hotel as we were staying for just two nights. Though located in centre of China Town, one can stay if passing through the city. The pier is just five minutes walk and the place surrounded by lots of eateries and also street shops. Staff at hotel are quite friendly and guide well for exploring the city. There is no restaurant attached but one can visit nearby cafe and restaurants when hungry.

Very cheap, very clean. Hotel staff seems very flexible on things. Since the hotel very close to the shopping area and major markets, I would recommend business travellers to hop in this cheap hotel. If the hotel can have smoking and non smoking rooms it would add more comfort to the hotel. I would say it's the best for the price they offer.

Have been using this hotel for 26 years now and nothing much has changed... What it does have most in it's favour is it's location and cost. Close to the ornate gate to Chinatown at 572 Yaowarat Rd near Wat Traimit and Hualamphong railway station, it is the perfect place as a base to explore the fantastic array of food stalls, shops, sights, sounds, smells and colours of the countless alleys and lanes nearby on Sampeng Lane and Charoen Krung Road and in between. Two river-taxi piers are nearby, but Ratchawongse some 500 metres away is where all boats call. Buses 40 and 53 will take you to right outside to and from the train station and metro, also to Sanam Luang close to the tourist mecca of Soi Khaosan and Rambuttri. As for the hotel itself, it offers large spacious rooms on the 6th to 8th floors. Although a bit dated, they are always clean, and all have an ensuite shower/toilet, some with a bath. Not elegant, but rooms are well furnished with plenty of room to spread yourself about, all have air-conditioning. Do, however, ask for a room with an odd number because these are to the rear away from the incessant traffic outside, the lower the number, the closer to the elevator they are. There is a service desk on each floor near the elevator where laundry can be left, it always returns spotless and perfectly ironed. Room prices are set at 800 baht regardless how many share the room, all rooms have 2 double beds, but I have never paid more than 650 baht... There used to be a restaurant to the rear of the 5th floor, but it has never been a success and is currently closed. There are major banks, a 7/11 shop, mini market and extremely helpful well established pharmacy very close by, as well as countless food-stalls around the Chinese temple. As an option to the very high priced alternatives in the area, this hotel offers extremely good value for it's location; I highly recommend it. The foyer desk is open 24/7 and are happy to arrange connections to the bus stations and airports at any hour of the day for a reasonable price. The website:- www.newempirehotel.com

We stayed here for one day (during the day time) while we did shopping in Chinatown. It was ideal that way; cheap and very close to shops. The staff were very friendly too. We loved the Maldivian restaurant on the 5th floor - the food was awesome.

Old building, old rooms, aircon too noisy (i had to turn it off). Breakfast was not included for 720 bath. You really can find something better around Hualaphong with that price. Good only for chinese new year!

We stayed here as a young couple for just 1 night the first day we landed in Bangkok. The hotel is situated in the heart of china town and a 10 minute walk from Hua Lamphong train station, we chose this hotel for its location to the train station as we were heading to Lao on the sleeper train on the night. The hotel rooms very basic and very dated, we stayed on the fourth floor over looking the busy streets of china town and you hear all the noise from the traffic. The hotel was adequate for what we needed for the day before we travelled up to Lao, such as a few hours sleep and a shower. I would not recommend staying in this hotel as part of a holiday but if your looking for somewhere basic and cheap near the train station, it wouldn't hurt to spend a night. The good thing I can say about the hotel was the receptionist staff were very helpful.

This hotel use to be Ok at some stage in previous time but it's gone completely. Airconditions not working at all. breakfast very bad. and the service is the worst. you will find a Barbra Streisend type lady in reception area (I think she is in administration), who just keep talking with other staff constantly and loud. one Jerry Lewis type conceirge person (I think his name is Tanat) who thinks that he is the most funniest guy in Thailand and he keeps talking non-stop and cracking silly jokes and faces in reception area and on the floors with cleaning ladies. He doesn't do anything or help the guests. on floor the cleaning ladies (specially Boobson) are hopeless and talks too much without helping (one thing I liked about her that when she speaks, she touches the guest, that was nice). Than it comes to the reception lady (Meung), very bad, not cortiuos and not helpful at all. free internet computer area has mosquitos and Jerry Lewis talking all the day. That's it. No more New Empire Hotel. Sad to see this one go but better let it go than being unhappy with the service.
