Baantai is spread over a huge area in Chiang Mai. The rooms are made of teak logs and the sprawling lawns make it a must-stay for those who want to get out of the claustrophobic environment of concrete buildings. You have to overlook the small bathroom in the room with a plastic floor – that is something you wish the... More

Very Disappointing. The new management lost their cook and there is now no food and breakfast is cooked by a room cleaner. It is appalling. The lovely wood building is now riddled with termites and I fell through three floor board. Very dangerous. This has now become a backpackers stopover and those I spoke to were most unhappy. I had... We stayed at this hotel in January 2008. The room was a real disappointment: it was dark inside, everything creaked when you moved around (wood everywhere) and the bed spreads looked like they hadn't been washed for years! The shower had very little pressure. The breakfast was small. The sun-loungers around pool were dirty. You need a taxi or tuk-tuk... More

The hotel does look wonderfull from the outside, but disapointing from the inside - The rooms are dark and smelly. The hotel is located far from town center. We expected that the hotel will run a free service to town, but they charged us more than a tuk tuk (100 BHT). The hotel was under renovations, and the dilligent workers... More

We stayed here for 3 night on our honeymoon in 2004 and fell for the charm of this teak hotel. It is still charming in it's own way, but it is run down and worn out. The hotel is clean but as everything (!) it made of teak is is very dark and the rooms seem smaller than they are.... More

Nice calm hotel in tek wood in the suburb of Chiang Mai. Airport is 10mn drive but we hear no airplane. Surroundings are not nice but hotel is an oasis of greenland, calm and pretty. We are 10mn drive to the center. Room are pretty small but clean and with the minimum of comfort. We stayed 5 nights. The most... More

It was a very nice atmosphere and staff was very nice. I traveled w/ 2 daughters and they really enjoyed the pool area. Our room was in front so next time we would ask for a back room as you can hear anybody who comes to the hotel in the early morning.

Just a few minutes' tuk-tuk ride from the center of town lies the beautiful classic Lanna-style Baantai Hotel. I cannot tell you how impressed we were with the value! Most of the hotel is comprised of teakwood, making for a romantic and warm experience. Make sure you ask for a balcony, so you can enjoy the gardens! There is nothing... More

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, and there was a great atmosphere, good service and good food. We had to take off our shoes before entering the hotel and is was great to walk around on a this clean wooden floor with bare feets.
