Took an early flight into HCMC and Hotel Continental fitted my requirements perfectly ( and at a good price ). Smooth pleasant check-in and all staff very helpful and courteous. As mentioned previously it is an historic venue and good on the eye. Stayed in a superior room and while no view it was private. Hope to stay again but would select a n Opera View with balcony. Large high ceiling room with beautiful wooden furniture and large comfortable bed. Absolutely spotless and quality linen. Part of the appeal was the historical context so it was a bit like venturing into an old stately home. There is a plug at the side of the bed and also an extension cable in the wooden wardrobe. The floors were beautiful wood. Air-conditioning worked well and full mini-bar with reasonably priced drinks. There was no separate shower but it was more than functional and again spotlessly clean. There is even bath salts for those who desire to use the tub. All amenities on hand including coffee. Breakfast was comfortable is the courtyard with smartly dressed and attentive staff. I noticed they assembled for the national anthem so a real sense of culture. A diverse offering at breakfast and I though the rice and bacon tasted good. The perfect location and it far exceeded my expectations. Would highly recommend for a couple days stay after an early flight (and longer in an Opera Room).

We stayed here 2 nights in a decent size room. Be sure to look at your room before moving in; not all rooms are alike. Hotel location is great, although it can be pretty noisy due to the proximity to the opera house and outdoor performances. Also, the doors and windows aren’t very soundproof. Comfortable beds and decent size bathroom, although our tub/shower combo should be re-caulked. Also, not much counter space associated with the lavatory. The rooms in the hotel have air conditioning, but the hallways do not, so it’s like walking through a sauna. Maid service was great. Breakfast buffet was very good with espresso style coffee and omelettes to order. Hotel service could have been better….we asked for a second suitcase rack and they couldn’t help us, so we moved the TV and the 2nd suitcase was put in its place.

This Hotel has beautiful and very large rooms because it is over 70 years or more years old . Location is exactly in the centre of the City where it is very convenient to have Public and Private Transport . Service from the young staff is amazing but they still have some staff who are old especially in the Reception who seems not like to help customers. Since the location is good you have everything around you

Before my extensive tour of Viêtnam, I researched the U.S. Viêtnam War, read Graham Greene’s “The Quiet Man” and watched the movie starring Michael Caine. I watched “Indochine” with the luminescent Catherine Deneuve. I decided I simply must stay at The Continental when I reached Ho Chi Minh City after my North South tour of the 5Hs:- Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, HCMC. Graham Greene was a long term resident here. This is a complex review. The location of the hotel is the best! It is in the sophisticated epicentre of bustling HCMC next to the Opera House. That’s why I chose it. The staff were fabulous. As expected it is Olde Worlde faded glory, especially the vast dining room. Another reason for my choosing it. For its character and charm. I was automatically upgraded to a sensational balconied suite on the first floor. I could have held a dinner party and costume Ball there! Lovely Receptionist Binh Duong even shown me the Graham Greene room on the corner on the floor above and I was given the option to stay there for some of my chosen nights. I tingled with excitement but opted for my vast Ballroom Suite. Here’s the problem… Viêtnam of today is a young, vibrant, indefatigably energetic and noisy nation - in the towns and cities at least. On my first night at The Continental they were doing sound checks for a loud rave style gig in front of the Opera House which started around 8am the next morning. I checked out. The staff were lovely. Booking.com proved yet again they are “the best” online booking Company. I only had to pay for one night and easily found a quiet place not too far away. I impressed upon the Reception staff and I impress upon on you too, the reader, I was sorry to leave. It is a very Special, Brilliantly located, Iconic Hotel with fabulous, friendly and welcoming staff. Perhaps I was just tired from extensive travels as my first hotel was also very noisy outside and I was fine with that! I hope this Review has been fair and frank and will not put people off, especially where upgrades to Hollywood style Suites are sometimes freely offered!!

I booked in advance on Expedia and I had to pay in full. My plans changed and I let them know in advance (in time frame) that I would be a day late, but they would not refund my money for the night I missed. On my last night they booked a wedding outside of my room, which was a glass window that looked onto a courtyard below that had 150 guests at a wedding with a DJ and dancing, with loud music. They would not give me any discount for the night. They offered to move my room when I complained about the loud music but it was not much quieter in the other room . They agreed that they knew that there would be a wedding and that it would be loud, but they would not give a discount or refund. I felt totally ripped off. No refund for the night I was not there, no refund for the loud wedding outside my room. This hotel must be in dire circumstances that they would treat guests so poorly. Look for a more honest hotel that will treat you well and not lie and rip you off.

when i first visited HCM city in 2017,i attracted by continental saigon hotel, love its colonial style design, this year when i visited HCM city again,i had chance to stay here, but only one night,i stayed at opera house view room, you can see part of the opera house from the room .the room is quite big, with TV, fridge, seating place…the bathroom has a bathtub, they provide free drinks and toiletries. the hotel still keep its charms.but i dont have time to explore it.i love its buffet breakfast, many choices food tasty and dined in a nice garden, very memorable experience. staffs just okay, but impressive with the cleaner here, they are very helpful. there are restaurant and cafe at the hotel, but no chance to have meal here, sigh! maybe one day will come again, and will stay longer, maybe i will write a story here? just like what Graham Greene did during his stay, haha!

Had a most wonderful experience during a 3 night stay here. We had a fabulous room with great views and a balcony. Loads of storage very clean and spacious room. Breakfast was served in the courtyard and had a good variety and was tasty. Location is perfect, close to the action, particularly the beautiful Opera house. What really-made our stay wonderful, were the staff. They honestly went above and beyond to make our stay eventful, particularly as I was celebrating my birthday a very very Long way from home. Thank you. I would highly recommend this Hotel.

Top class hotel, whose staff could not do enough for you. We took the Graham Greene Room with its corner position you have a wonderful view of the Opera house and street life below. The decor is from a different age with wooden wardrobes an very high ceilings. Wonderful experience. To re-iterate the staff were top class and I will look forward to returning.

We had already enjoyed Saigon in a mid budget hotel for 5 nights at the start of our 3 week Vietnam adventure. Our stay at The Continental for our last 2 nights was a birthday gift from my partner as he knows my fascination with its history and architectural glory. We felt like kings in our huge, elegant, Opera View room; oh how I wish walls could talk, I kept expecting Graham Greene to walk past my room and invite me downstairs to the bar for cassis. The breakfast buffet was superb and the staff were sweet and attentive. A perfect place to wind down before flying home. Kidsada and I thank you and your team for a perfect experience.

Title says it all. Very well placed being in centre of District 1 tourist haven and full of old world charm with spacious rooms, good service by well trained staff who appear dedicated and like their work. Good breakfast as well. Sadly, the gym is rated around 2/10. The old world charm offers a bit of a downside as well….everything is old. Don’t think it’s been all that well maintained over the years either. Stayed in two different rooms over a short period with one night each time. Hard trouble with hot water in the shower in both instances. Would return and happy to recommend.
