This is an old Soviet hotel with cheap Chinese furnishings. If you get a single room, be warn that it is really tiny, especially the washroom. However, the location is really excellent - close to Sukhbaatar Square and downtown.

I spent 3 nights in this hotel. It's old, falling apart, stains on the carpet, however it is the nicest property in Ulaanbaatar and the staff is very friendly. Their harsh winters has taken its toll on the exterior of the hotel itself. I hope they will put some money into it this spring so it's a tad nicer when... More

One has to feel sorry for such hotels from a by-gone era. Saddled with an old concrete block structure, ancient plumbing, austere funishings and the like, it's not easy to compete with gleaming new hotels popping up here and there. Somehow, the Ulaanbaatar Hotel gives it a pretty good shot. Some rooms and some facilities have been renovated; the staff... More

For those who have not had a chance to experience old style Soviet hotels, this is the place to go to. Although it undoubtedly is a good deal better than the real stuff as known in the USSR up to the 80's, it still has that distinct feel of being borderline between hotel and penitentiary institution. Staff can be pleasant,... More

The UB has seen better days. Water pressure in shower was hopeless. Location was good as the office is around the corner. A colleague had his bag stolen out the front, not the fault of the hotel, but be aware.

This place is frankly sub-standard and over priced. Standard rooms are pitifully small, bathrooms cramped and heating inadequate (in December). Place is noisy with functions and in a seedy area - watch going out at night. Food was poor, meaning necessary to eat out all the time. No bar just a coffee shop run by a 3rd party company, so... This is a very tired property. The hotel is nominally clean, but corners in the bathroom had hair and debris from a former guest. Like another reviewer the touch pad near the bed that controls the lights worked intermittently. I'd try to live with it, but when I was frustrated or needed to sleep and the lights wouldn't go off,... More

The bonus point of staying here is the location which is very near the main attractions. It is also steep in history and one can be proud to say that one was in the oldest luxury hotel in Mongolia. Apart from this it was an ok hotel and as mentioned by other reviewers had seen better days. I stayed in... More

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Reading some of the reviews helped manage my expectations. I stayed in a single room which was very small but comfortable. The breakfast had a decent selection given all the different nationalities staying at the hotel. They had a few problems with the water pressure and at times it took a bit of... More

The claims from the literature and website for this hotel must be taken with a pinch of salt. It is obvious that about 20 years ago this was the best in town, remembering that 20 years ago this was a Soviet style economy. The hotel tries hard but it just needs a complete overhaul. It has become a standard hotel... More
