The location is only a 5min walk into the main street down hill is ok but the walk back up is daunting when carrying shopping lol a bus is only 150vatu ($1.60aud). We stayed in a orchid room which was clean and functional, the only complaint i have is the bathroom lacks any ventilation or exhaust fan which contributes to... More

Nice hotel in a nice location. 5-10 minute walk into town or you can catch a ride, but watch out for the drivers.....NO DRIVING LAWS IN VILA...makes every experience a bit more fun. Rooms very clean and the staff are super friendly..... More

We booked our room through Hotels.com and were promised air conditioning in a Hibiscus room. When we arrived there was no air con and we were advised there was a mistake on the site. They eventually relented and gave us a free upgrade to a Orchid Room which had air con. The shower grout was covered in so much mould... More

Spent 4 nights here last week ( 25th Jan) with my wife for a quick business trip. Booked a Hibiscus room with kitchenette, balcony, satellite t/v large bathroom etc. and was very impressed with the roominess & cleanliness.Got a great off peak rate (including b/fast) through Expedia & as it was low season we almost had the place to ourselves. The cultural... More

The Melanesian is one of those South Pacific hotels like the Holiday Inn in Suva, the Gateway in Port Moresby and the Lantana Beach in Noumea that seem locked in the 1960s and 70s, with their low rise concrete buildings, wooden carvings and ubiquitous island prints everywhere you want to lie or sit. Some people hate this kind of thing,... More

As mentioned by other reviewers, the decor is a bit dated, and the pool/patio area is beginning to show its age, but I can nevertheless highly recommend this hotel because the staff were so friendly and helpful. The included "continental" breakfast included not only cereal, but also eggs and pancakes made to order, fresh fruit, tanna coffee, and croissants. Our... More

We stayed at the Melanesian as part of a fortnight trip, used our Amex points to pay for 6 nights in a Hibiscus Room. Was gob smacked when told 8% was added when using a credit card to pay for meals and drinks. This is just plain greed. Room was okay , although the towels were thin and frankly would... More
