Finding the Fauna Hotel was easy, down an ally where cars have no access and along the top of a hill which immediately gave a good view of the town below and the bay. Unlike traditional buildings the hotel functions from top to bottom, reception/restaurant/terrace at the top, with rooms leading down the multi story building perched along the hill.... More

Hotel Fauna is an eclectic little 6 room boutique hotel located on Pasaje Dimalow in Cerro Alegre a mere 20 metres from the top of the Ascensore Reina Victoria. If you're looking for a hotel of upscale North American standards with all the 5 star amenities such as wall to wall closets, air conditioning, television, CD player, stereo, spa, pool,... More

Not a cheap hotel, at least if you get the rooms with a view out over the city and harbor, but well worth the price. The decor is very funky with somewhat odd unfinished stucco walls with pieces of straw hanging out of them, But I liked it, as it seemed appropriate to a town like Valparaiso which is beautiful... The hotel is very well located in cerro Alegre, welcome is very friendly, top floor is actually a restaurant/bar (nice beer) with a very good view on the cerro/sea. I chose a "standard" room. They appear to have NO view at all. mine (4) was looking good (I like contemporary style with apparent concrete), with a nice stylish bathroom BUT... More

This hotel in a nonsense. It tries so hard to be super trendy (and from other comments on Tripadvisor seems able to con enough people!) - but it misses on all the basics. The rooms are modern smart and a decent size, BUT - our was a sub-terranian one with almost no natural light. The rooms have absolutely nowhere to... More

The fauna hotel is more accurately described as an inn, that is, a small neighborhood place that offers food and drink and also offers a few rooms for rent. It is a vertical structure built into a hillside with only two sides exposed to light. The top floor, one story up from the sidewalk, consists of a kitchen, the reception... More

True to what other travelers have said, the Fauna is cutting edge eco-stylish. Were I just 30 years younger, I would have thought it was very cool. However, it's a bit too cool for my pensioner demographic. The restaurant's lovely balcony terrace was crowded every evening with young revelers chain-smoking their lungs out. Hotel's best features were 1) very comfortable... More

We appreciate your opinion and want to inform the poeple that we are growing: The hotel will count 9 more rooms, all well exposed and a bigger and panoramic terrace where our hosts will be able to share place with the locals. We will be as well reparing and reforcing actual rooms, specially their isolation. Cordialmente, Javier Alonso A. More

We had 2 nights here. The room we were allocated the first night was down 2 flights of stairs. The room was very dark, and the only window was small and looked out to another wall of the hotel (and our neighbour's bathroom). The room was stylish in a minimalist way - e.g. no wardrobe, very little bench space and... More

We arrived early in the morning from a cruise ship, the taxi took us most of the way there - it is a steep walk up hill but so is most of Santiago. There was a short walk on level ground to the hotel which is in a very pleasant area. At first I walked past the hotel door -... More

The longer I stayed, the more I enjoyed Hotel Fauna. At first the minor drawbacks are apparent: the rooms are not exactly luxurious, there is no safety box and no AC. And since the building is quite old you hear everyone come in and out of their rooms and you know who's taking a shower at what time. But these... More
