Splendido was a great place to stay, albeit in a really old building. The location is unbeatable, the staff friendly and the rooms, well, antiquated but clean. Note. The rating is based on it being what it is not comparing it to the Marriott.

The building and the furniture are really old. The staff were very helpful. The room was clean. Actually it's a hostel with private rooms with bathrooms. The sound from the street was very loud even with my room turned to the Bacacay St. Take your earplugs with you.

We spend 3 nights at the Splendido Hostel the beginning of tis year. We really loved the place. It's word a recommendation, go for it if you visit Montevideo! The staff is more than friendly, very helpfull and full of ideas. The building is beautiful, old heigh ceilingbuilding with a retro-atomosphere made by the hosts. Extra for us: We had... More

We had read all the reviews and decided to go for Splendido as the other super cheap 2 person room option in town (Green Hostel) had some pretty bleak reviews. We were really pleasantly surprised - super kitsch stylish decor throughout, 5-6m high ceilings and a perfect location make this a great choice. We arrived on Friday and stayed for... More

I knew exactly what to expect after careful research. I can see how some people get a little disappointed if all they did was look at the hotel's website. The website does give the impression that it's much nicer than it really is. The hotel has hostel dorm accommodation, as well as private rooms. I had a private room, and... More

Despite being on top of some bars, we got a room facing a quieter street, which made for some nice nights. It is a mix of hotel and hostel, and we got a big room with midcentury modern furniture and a private bathroom. The staff were very friendly, and the free wifi internet was ok. The location was perfect -... More

This hostel is very cheap - in every sense of the word. We stayed here for 4 nights (with a baby) - and our room was right above a nightclub. There's also not much around in terms of eating. Good for young people who don't plan on sleeping much

Stayed here for two nights for a flying visit of the capital city. It is housed in an old colonial mansion just west of the Plaza Independencia, in the hub of restaurants/bars. The rooms and corridors of the hostel have high ceilings and are decorated in a retro-style feel. The en-suite bathrooms have style but lack practicality. Word of warning:... More

Lonely Planet accurately describes this hotel as 'faded but friendly'. You can see that it's many decades past its prime, yet I suspect I liked it better for that. It was great value, in an excellent location and the staff were really helpful. We arrived with a bag of wet clothes, after our hostel in Ponta del Diablo failed to... More

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Loved the high ceilings, and the bed was comfortably firm. It was like a palace after roughing it in Central America for a while. For this price you can't expect TOO much, so just don't. We just happen to find old buildings charming. The room needed some attention but was definitely clean. Fantastic... More
