The Sur Hotel exceeded all expectations and the staff was phenomenal. Our first experience occurred prior to arrival when we let them know we’d be arriving early and needed a place to store our luggage. They quickly complied with our request and once we arrived, they allowed us to pick between two different rooms. Once chosen, they allowed us to...

The rooms are large, clean, beautifully decorated, and quiet at night. This pretty little place is tucked on a corner in Barrio Sur, and is surrounded by picturesque streets and patio cafes. The beds are ample and comfy, the bathrooms are renovated, and stylishly decorated. Great hot water!!! Margot at the front desk (evenings) is the best for making everything...

I am not looking to bash anyone, but the interior rooms have no windows. I speak enough Spanish, but had a hard time getting my point across to the staff, who spoke zero English, "Una habitación con ventanas por favor" Otherwise a clean, new-enough hotel, friendly staff unfortunately unable or unwilling to speak English.
We have stayed at Sur Hotel for one night. Hotel is quite reasonable, rooms are small, but very clean. It looks like it was remodeled very recently. It does not have its own parking area, you have an option to leave it in a parking station one block far from the hotel. There is no elevator and nobody to help...

Hotel Sur is a very basic and average Hotel in Montevideo. I haven't stayed at other hotels in the city but IMO there is no way this place should be no 2 on TA.
The place is rather small, with very limited services and options (No Bfast..). As mentioned by others, the rooms are clean but very spartian as well...

SUR Hotel offers great prices at a no-frills environment. Rooms are comfortable and spotless clean; wi-fi works perfectly and so the hair dryer, which is rare at hotels. The rooms at the older part of the hotel have lovely balconies; the ones at the newest part don't, but are more spacious. The breakfast was not included, so we just used...

I stopped in Uruguay on my trip from Santiago, Chile to Sao Paulo, Brazil and stayed one night. I was looking for a small hotel that was near the ocean and the old town area. From what I read, boutique hotels are a new trend in Montevideo.
The hotel is relatively new and the people that ran it were great....
