I stayed at this hotel in Montevideo and my first surprise was the door key. It was an old designed key like from the 30's!!!! A big uncomfortable piece of wood or plastic as a key ring. Excellent location close to the centre and just off the main avenue, so not too noisy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Good comfortable room, maybe a little small. Excellent bed and pillows. Nice hotel to stay at in a central location. Walkable to most sights in the city. Rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable. As someone else stated, our shower also leaked water all over the bathroom floor. It was almost as if the glass partition wasn't long enough. So don't leave anything on the floor you don't want... Alvear is Like a $20 bill found in your sock drawer--it won't change your life, but it will start your day right. Rooms are old and hallways are noisy. However, Central location (supermercado very close, too), fair prices and amiable service leave a favorable impression.
