Spent our last to nights in the DPRK in the Yanggakdo and was certainly the best of the half dozen hotels we satyed at around the country. The previous reviews seem to have said it all and of course you will be told you are staying here so its not as if you have a choice. Good views, good breakfast... More

Well I think everyone has said everything you need to know. I stayed on the 43 floor, some mornings taking 15 minutes to get to the ground floor by lift. Outside on the river a dredger boat was busy all night making it very hard to sleep with the window open. Hotel staff need some training, room clean & tidy. More

We came here as part of an organised trip and so the choice of where to stay had been made for us. We were unsure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. It is a massive hotel and the lifts seemed to have a mind of their own, but the rooms were big and clean and the public areas were... More

Like others have said, you know what you are in for if you come here. The food is random, the rooms totally random. But the beer is cheap and the souvenir shop is ok. Definitely the highlight is the tailor shop on the 3rd floor, i got an awesome Kim Jung Il suit made, it only took 48 hours and... More

As you'll have gathered, you're here because you have to stay here, not because you've chosen to. The hotel is westernised and boasts clean rooms with the kind of amenities you'd normally expect from a 3-star back in the normal world. Sections of the hotel which are not being used will have the power shutdown, which can give it a... More

We had our final night here during a week long tour of DPRK; it is a good standard of hotel for North Korea with hot water and comfortable beds; reasonable facilities including BBC news. However, it is just like any other business hotel in an Asian city so you don't really feel like you are in the DPRK aside from... More

A standard hotel that could be anywhere in the world. Like all DPRK hotels, you can't go out alone, but this one has a natural boundary in that it's on an island. We stayed just after the Kim Il Sung's 100 year anniversary celebrations and the hotel was suffering from a lack of stock! The rotating bar/restaurant was shut and... More

This is a unique hotel in a very unique city in the whole world. Don't come to this hotel for luxurious appointments and quality service or cuisine. Instead come here to experience "the best" in mid 1980's communist chic. Everything about this place is weird and somewhat wonderful. The views from the rooms are excellent and the place is very... This hotel is just like any other business hotel in Asia. It fulfills it's functions, is clean (as everything in the DPRK) and provides food that is eatable. Yes there are some weird things to it, such as the 5th (you can go there using the service elevator or the stairs and look at the propaganda posters) or the funny... More

This hotel is not a bad hotel. Yes it's a little dated now with the furniture, bathrooms etc but, and if you are going by the DPRK's standards, the its 5*. In the UK or Europe it would be a 3* and thats because it would get + marks for the bowling alley, pool etc. The rooms are clean enough... More
