Pro:
Near the Palace and the night market at the main street. Cheap (25 usd), with private bathroom with hot shower and aircon. Despite the smell, it was clean.
Cons:
No breakfast (But many options around), smelly and old room (in our case, it was also noisy because we stayed at the first backroom after the reception) and staff not...

The Sayo is on the peninsula in the old section of the city overlooking the Mekong. It has the flavor of the old French colonial architecture. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff was great. The night market, restaurants and shops are only a short walk from the hotel. Other attractions are tuk-tuk close.

We liked LP so much that we stayed for almost a week. What we especially liked about Sayo Guesthouse was it's calm atmosphere, perfect location and friendly staff. It really felt like temporary home. Last but not least we got a low-season rate which was well below what is listed on their webpage. The house is a bit run down,...

Couldn't recommend this guesthouse enough. The staff are really friendly, while the rooms are spacious and secure with views over the Mekong. It's only a five minute walk from the town centre and night market - perfect location as it's nice a quiet at night.
We went on an overnight trip and they took care of our backpacks, held a...

We stayed for one night - went for a tour and went back to SAYO RIVER for a further 7 nights.. $40 no breakfast and although there are cheaper alternatives however, having stayed at a dearer place this is quiet. We had an upstairs room overlooking the Mekong with balcony, fridge with beer, lemonade and pepsi and free bottled water...

We were warned that it could get noisy. Luckily, the monks at the eponymous Vat Xieng Mouane located just opposite the Sayo Guest House decided to take pity on all late risers and did not begin their chanting and drumming until well into the afternoon. The guest house is an old house, barely renovated from the palatial home it must...

My wife and I stayed at the Sayo Guest House, Xieng Mouane location for three nights in January. We booked this hotel because we liked its location across from the Xieng Mouane temple. We stayed in room A5 which is upstairs and faced the temple across the street.
The room itself is quite large. It has nice hardwood floors and...

Wonderful house, we had a beautiful corner room with a mezzanine for the children, it had a lot of charm and character. Located very centrally so very convenient for everything in Luang Prabang. The people at the desk were also really helpful.
One minus point: there is no breakfast in the hotel, with small children it is a little cumbersome...

I stayed for 6 nights in one of the cheaper "back" rooms at Sayo Xiang Mouane. The hotel location is excellent. The room was simple but large, clean and quiet. The hotel service was adequate and I had no problems (reported by other TA reviewers) about reservations not being held. I would stay here again.
