We stayed one night at the Pingjing Lodge in early January and then moved to the Pan Pacific Suzhou, which is a 5 star hotel that charged less (booked via Hotels.com) than we paid at the Pingjiang Lodge. The taxi driver taking us from the railroad station did not know the Lodge but got us close. The staff were nice,... More

The entire compound includes a main house and another area across the street. The main house was once the home of a wealthy man. The architecture and furnishings are traditional Chinese. Walking around the main house one has the feeling of being in a mansion. It is at a cross section of two streets. Car can be driven to the... More

Tucked away in a long alley, the Pingjiang Lodge is a genuine old Chinese mansion. I sprang for an expensive room, a deluxe suite, and it was great pretending I was Gong Li for a night. Furnishing are old and in keeping with the atmosphere, e.g., red silk cushions. The ceilings are high, but overall the place is dark and... More

We stayed for 2 nights at the Pingjang Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it.Prior to reaching Suzhou, we'd been staying in 4/5* hotels in the larger cities but this was a welcome change from the somewhat sterile experience at the earlier hotels. Yes - it's a bit quirky but it does have a very relaxed air about it. They serve breakfast... More

Good location, but I expected more. The rooms they gave us smelled of sewer (the hotel is along the canal). The service was so so. There was only one person at the reception who spoke English. When we left to go to the train station, they told us to just walk down the street and haul a taxi. They forgot... More

We stayed here with our two daughters (6 and 12 year old) at the recommendation of a friend. It is a fine place to stay. It is set up as a Qing Dynasty mansion, with very comfortable and large rooms. More

Let me start by saying I loved this hotel, albeit my wife was not quite so keen. After staying in 4* and 5* city hotels I found it a refreshing change and contrast to stay in this hotel in the old quarter of Suzhou. Yes, the carpet and the cheap bamboo blinds at the doors and windows could have done... More
