Nice hotel, very hard to find (print a map), good for one day. Close to the old district quite nice to be in, in fact the only place to be in Suzhou. You can walk the canal district from the hotel. the staff was helpful with there limited English.

The entrance is not visible from the street, but taxi drivers will indicate how to get there, since it faces the Shantang Seven Mile canal in the midst of a wonderful dining and shopping area of pedestrian streets (but watch out for 2-and-3-wheeled vehicles!). Go under the bridge to the north and you're in the middle of a really interesting,... More

We arrived early morning and were offered a small room. As we had paid for the feature room, we opted to wait for it to become available. However, we were disappointed the room we were eventually given did not have a balcony as described. Apparently only some of the second floor canal view rooms have balconies. The view had to... More

The biggest selling point of this hotel is the location, large rooms look right onto the canal with beautiful bridges in both directions. The rooms were also modern and clean. And all of this for a very reasonable cost, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you want to b around the area when it is empty. The main downside... More

Being one of the hottest attractions in Suzhou, Shantang Seven Mile Street is congested with travellers every minute, from 9:00 to 22:00. Therefore I chose to live right in the middle of the area so that I can stroll along the street quietly during late night and early in the morning to enjoy the real transquility and original taste of... Really nice place located next to the river and the Shantang seven mile street. The rooms on the second floor are the nicest, comfortable beds, really nice bright room, awesome shower and nice bathroom. The hallway is really 80's and it doesn't have an elevator, but the rooms are super nice. Cons: only one guy from the recption speaks English,... More

Reading all of the reviews on this property, I can understand the range of experience. As an expat living in China, I have stayed in too many Chinese hotels...this one is not bad; in fact, it is pretty good for China. The eight or ten rooms that overlook the canal are by far the most desirable and definitely worth the... More

I will take away two strong memories from our stay at this hotel – the lovely setting on the side of the canal and the overpowering smell of drains in the rooms. We booked 4 nights and on arrival were delighted at the situation fronting right onto the very attactive canalside, one of the best sights in Suzhou. The first... More

We spent 3 nights here. The bed was comfortable by China standards, so quite hard! Our room was on the canal which was a bit noisy during the day with tour guides, but this stops at 9pm and then it is very peaceful all night. Air conditioning and sit down toilet. The staff where very helpful and mostly had good... More

The Royal Garden is pleasantly situated on a canal in the old part of Suzhou. But the the rooms are small, uncomfortable and cramped with a pillar rising inconveniently in the middle of the room. That may not be true of all the rooms. There is no elevator and plenty of steps to negotiate with your luggage. There is no... More
