myself and a group of friends stayed in Cartagena. it was a mixed group - male and female - and we just had the most awful experience with the owner, Pedro which completely ruined our experience. For the female members of our group, he constantly pestered them, touching them all the time and making a series of inappropriate comments. he... More

Staff are super-friendly - especially Jenny - and the beds and bathrooms are clean. Nice chilled out place to stay but it's really, really hot during the day - not much airflow - but that's the same in most places i've been here. good air-con in the rooms at night though. major complaint is size of lockers: too small to... No major complaints. Place was clean and staff helpful and friendly. It did not strike us as a party place at all. It was quite relaxed. The private double was so-so. Nothing special but not bad. The 2 restaurants right underneath are excellent. The pizza place in particular.

Makako is the best place I stayed in Cartagena (better than Mamallena and El Viajero). The staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. It's got a good ambiance and the common area feels like that of your house back home: big screen tv, couches, and a nice balcony that overlooks a quiet side street in the Old Town. The only drawback... More

This hostel is in a very great spot, within walking distance of everything in the Old City. Dorms over priced though, and I can assume the other rooms are as well. Staff was great, good kitchen space. Not as chill as the name suggests, the TV is constantly on with music blasting and social travellers pre-drinking. Calle del Quero, where... More

The girls running the hostel were super fun and friendly! On arrival Gina gave us a great run down of what to do and where to go in the area. It was in a nice location in the old town centre in walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars, the walls and a huge Exito supermarket. The rooms were... More

Good location but private rooms are seriously overpriced. Dorms might be ok value for the neighborhood but shared bathrooms are grimy. "Chillout" is a misnomer--its loud and people are there to party rather than chill. Probably great for gap year kids and solo backpackers looking to socialize, but not the place for couples or solo travellers who want to relax.

Nice, relaxed little hostel within the city walls of Cartagena. The location of this place couldn’t be better – it’s in a little street, around one block down from the main drag, and about 5 minutes walk from a huge supermarket. It’s a long way to the bus station – a taxi costs around COP25,000, but this is true of... More

This place has a prime location right in the of the old section of Cartagena, on a quiet and clean street across from a pretty luxurious B&B. It's situated right above a couple nice restaurants, including La Mulatta, which was probably the best deal we got in the city - amazing set lunches. Makako's got a very homey vibe to... More

I looooooved Makako hostel! I spent one week in total, and not even once did I think of changing... The hostel is medium size, not too big so easy making friends. The staff are amazing! It felt like a family. I love the common area of Makako, its like being in a real home, with a living room, big plasma... More
