This is my first review on Trip Advisor, and I don't normally like to make negative reviews, but I feel like people deserve to know what they're getting in to if thinking about booking this hotel. We booked this hotel with their management office in Jakarta with only having photos from their website. We weren't expecting luxury, just a simple clean place to stay for a couple days while enjoying the beach. At first glance, the Pantai Mutiara looks like a decent place - they have a pool, a nice looking dining area, and attractive looking Javanese style buildings. All things fall apart however when going beyond casual inspection. Inside and out, the place is really falling apart. Though well staffed, the employees spend most of their day sleeping or watching television. It is also difficult to tell the difference between hotel employees and people who work at the street-side food stalls outside the hotel, as it seems that the food stall workers spend as much time at the hotel as they do at their stalls, and the hotel employees (including the manager) spend much of their time sitting at the food stalls chatting. When our shower didn't work (no water whatsoever), this was a complete surprise to the front desk staff and maintenance staff, even though it also turned out that the showers in other rooms didn't work either. When they did finally fix it, they were happy to leave us with a disappointing spray that if sprayed horizontally only went 2cm away from the shower head before gravity sent it to the uncleaned floor. The hot water simply did not work. The pool constantly had the cleaning equipment in the water, but it was clear that the pool had not been cleaned in weeks. Our room had rust stains all over the bathroom, mold, fixtures that hadn't been cleaned in... who knows how long, hornets nests being built on the inside wall of the room, and cracks around the doors and windows allowing mosquitoes to come in. The room had clearly not had anything more than a quick sweeping for a very long time, as behind the bed, under furniture and the corners of the rooms were full of dust and obvious signs of past occupants (food wrappers, sunscreen bottles, etc.). Lastly, breakfast was advertised as included with the room - and it was - but included only two pieces of toast (that wasn't even toasted!) and weak coffee. The saddest thing about this place is that all of these problems could have easily been prevented. Basic maintenance using the staff already on hand would have kept this hotel looking beautiful, but each person working there walks past these signs of disrepair constantly, and it looks like they have been doing so for a long, long time. I really hope they can turn it around, because the place has real potential... Unfortunately by now, the cost to do that will be quite substantial because the place has been let go for so long.…
