The trip to get to this remote resort is worth it. As soon as we get there all the hard work paid off. From the welcoming greet to the room escort service and the room itself.....it is beyond expectation. The view is outstanding, the food is great. the pool in front of the room is perfect. The boat house is... More

I'm a surfer from Malibu--and over the years had heard great stories about the waves and the resort at Nihiwatu in Sumba. This year, I decided to go--and experience the myth, first hand, for myself.... I was not disappointed in any way, other than its extremely remote locale, which, on second thought, is what makes Nihiwatu great...hard to get to,... More

We would also like to endorse the views expressed by Cath1987. We stayed in Nihiwatu in March 2013 just after the revamped resort had opened. It was officially still the rainy season but the rains stopped just as we got off the plane at Tambolaka Airport, to be met by Martin and crew. We were shown to our car and... More

My husband and I traveled to Nihiwatu for our honeymoon for one week this March, and we definitely choose the right place! I booked Nihiwatu after scouring the Internet for a luxurious place that has surf but also extra activities I could enjoy while my husband enjoys the waves. Luckily it lived up to all its expectations in those areas.... More

I have recently stayed at Nihiwatu: simply memorable! The resort is stunning and it lies on a 2 km long beach with warm and turquoise waters. The rooms are tastefully appointed with a contemporary style in mind but still respecting the traditions of the island. I especially enjoyed the private plunge pool overlooking the sea. Food? Plenty of choices: you... More

When one goes to nihiwatu at Sumba, one must shed off expectations of the typical international resort chains with a universal handbook for all their hotels and staff. Nihiwatu is not a chain resort, it is a high-end boutique resort for a very niche group of guests - people who are able to appreciate and understand the background in which... More

What a paradise!! I took my young family this holiday and we extended our stay four times! And thats with a 1 year old and 18 year old child! Amazing unparalleled service (10 staff per guest), a two mile beach with "no one" on it and then considering you are on an idle in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago,... More

Nihiwatu is the most amazing resort we have ever visited. The Sumbanese people are warm and friendly and the leadership under Ba Pa George world class. Make sure you visit the waterfall and do stand up paddling through the rice paddies and little villages. Surfing may be the main attraction but as a non surfer the abundance of things to... More

Nihiwatu is unlike any vacation I've had before (and I've been to many amazing places in the world). I think its the unique mix of spectacular scenery, understated luxury, remoteness, authenticity, and the people that make it very special. It felt like we were on a Robinson Crusoe adventure with a little bit of luxury thrown in. George and Christian... More

After hearing about Nihiwatu for several years, we finally went: an astonishing place. Beautifully maintained and designed. Staff friendly and eager to help. The 2 watermen ( they truly are) did everything possible to make a wonderful and memorable experience, including Christian taking professional quality photos of my husband & I (and the other 8) surfing on a perfect wave....
