The Galle Fort and its staff are just terrific. The building is fascinating and beautiful - and the rooms exceptionally lovely by any standard - characterful and very comfortable. The gardens very pretty and the small pool perfect for cooling off. We especially appreciated breakfast being served whenever you choose - and the food very good. One smallish negative -... More

OK, this is a nice place, right in the middle of the old Galle fort town. I see a lot of hype in other reviews which I can only share to a certain extent. I like the old, colonial building and I know that it's not so easy to maintain a high level of excellence in the kitchen, the rooms,... More

My husband and I spent 2 nights in this beautifully decorated boutique hotel. We were in the porcelain room with very high ceilings and obviously lots of old porcelain. It was so central to wander around the galle fort and I felt quite happy to wander around alone. The dinner menu lacked some imagination and variety so we ate out... More

Great little boutique hotel, small enough to be intimate but with large-hotel style amenities. We stayed in Loft Suite #1, which we recommend as its at the far end of the verandah overlooking the pool and thus is the most private. We had a nice chaise lounge outside the room, and the duplex room was very spacious. The downstairs sitting... More

Beautifully restored 17th Century Dutch merchant villa in the centre of the Fort. Huge rooms off a central courtyard with a pleasant pool. In 2007 won the UNESCO "outstanding conservation achievement" award. Only 14 rooms, so really intimate, Meals served on covered verandah. Our room-"Admiral Cheung", had an opium bed, which you had to get into from the bottom end only,but... More

Only 12 rooms and all different in style. I stayed in L3 which is a two level with the four poster up stairs and lounge downstairs with shower and loo. Beautiful colonial style with all rooms around the swimming pool. The food was excellent for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Set courses for dinner and something unique each night. The main... More

We stayed in the Grand Apartment 1 for two nights as arranged by the owner of Kahanda Kanda, George Cooper. Our arrival was slightly hectic due to the very heavy rains that were falling but the staff were charming and our room simply stunning. The food was good, certainly better than Amangalla, but not wonderful. The hotel arranged an excellent... More

Initially we weren't over impressed, but within a day we had fallen in love. We arrived just in time for a late lunch. The resturant was busy, and they were playing loud jazz music. The staff were lovely and the food was great, but there was no atmosphere or ambience. We were then shown to a lovely room on the... More

Such a unique place. What a great journey to the past with the comfort of the present. The decor and the good taste are a trademark of this amazing place. Such a luxury to have stayed there. We stayed in a garden room. The hotel has been beautifully renovated...you really do feel like you are staying as guests in the mansion of the original owners. Pool although small is always empty. Lovely garden area which each of the rooms look onto. We ate at the restaurant and it was probably the best meal we had in Galle.... More
