A very pleasant location but do not end there on a cloudy day. There is absolutely nothing to do and you will be wondering pretty quickly what is there to do.. The BIG minus is that the manager does not speak a word of English and communication is practically impossible. They organise virtually nothing from the hotel and you really feel stuck.

Response from chialin, Owner at Huai Khum Resort
Responded 22 Dec 2016
Oh, I am really sorry I was not there when you came to the resort. In fact, you can visit the neighboring village, swim in the resort, trek, kayak, or take a boat to the nearby attractions. You even can sit in all green view restaurant and drink a cup of coffee there. Don't you think it is so relaxing and refreshing to be there? Sometimes, body language is very useful. If the staff is friendly, he still can do a good job even he couldn't speak English at all. Don't you think so?

Arriving at Huai Khum resort by boat is fun but when you get there it is absolutely breathtaking! A picture paints a thousand words! The rooms are large and specious and the decor of original northern Thai beautiful. My main gripe is the awful bathroom, walls are cracked, no amenities besides two small soap bars, no shampoo (!) and overall dilapidated. It's a pity really as it could so easily be rectified. I almost gave it an average because of this bug the place overall is too breathtaking for an average.

Stayed for our last night on a Spice Roads bike tour from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. There are 2 ways in here , both are pretty rough and a bit steep. The way we came in you have to get the long boat from the Resort to come and ferry you across the river. Lovely , airy dining area overlooking the river where its great to sit, have a beer and watch the local kids cooling off in the river or at dusk the local fisherman walking down their river attempting catch some fish with their small hand nets. There is a big swimming pool here with 2 elephant statues blasting water into the air. The management had to cope with a large Chinese tour group but they still were kind enough to include us in their "prepare ypur own Papaya salad" class, carefully supervised by thier chef. The food was good with nice spicing and plenty of variety to choose from. The room- hmm some are quite close but they were occupied by the large tour group so we were relegated to the hill station. A bit of a walk up a steep winding path. The benefits were a good view of the local village, rice paddies and the river. No air con up in the heights, just a single overhead fan and a couple of gauze screens to allow air flow. There is also a separate sitting room and an outside balcony with a table and chairs all cleverly constructed from bamboo. The down side is that at night we had strong winds and a heavy storm resulting in a lot of water inside our room, especially the sitting room. The areas where the gauze is also allowed a fair amount of water in and as a result the second bed (unoccupied) in the room got soaking. Don't let this put you off, if you get close to here a couple of days realxing here would be great.

Arrival to the property is an adventure in itself! The roads are very rugged and winding up the hills to this location, another transportation option here is a longtail boat as the resort is located on the river. Surroundings: Once you arrive to this lovely property in the hills of Northern Thailand you really feel at peace. There is controlled cattle grazing on the property but the grounds are very well kept and it is a lovely hike up the hill on the property to view the other huts and the river valley, rice paddies and the modern pool below. Your Room: The bamboo huts are very basic but spacious, you have your own porch with deck chairs. There is mosquito netting that you use for your bed as well as a fan in your room. The bathroom is a basic shower and the hot water worked fine. It is cooler by the river so we did not miss air conditioning. I was only here one night with a cycle tour but with excellent natural settings and no t.v. I bet you can really relax, read, kayak, walk about the hills here and swim. The meals served in the restaurant were tasty local Thai dishes and American Style egg breakfast. This location left an impression on me. I loved hearing the singing workers across the river in the fields, while swimming in a very surreal modern nice pool next to the river.

Whilst relatively basic, this resort is a tremendous country stay. I literally spent hours watching the villagers working in the rice fields, watching the river, and admiring the view. Beyond this, I can report: * The room is simple (no aircon, rudimentary bathroom) but clean and peaceful. * The food is good. * The pool refreshing. * The surrounding countryside amazing. The only downside we had was a large group of tourists from another Asian country who were very loud. Thankfully we were able to retreat up the hill away from them, and relax in peace.

This is a true rustic get away - very peaceful. The staff were extremely friendly but had almost no English and we had to communicate in a series of made up sign language & noises!!! But we managed! Food here was absolutely superb - best we've had! And the pool was superb too. Our boys fished and kayaked and were in boys heaven. This is definitely rustic tho - bathrooms v 2 star and only one set of towels and very worn bedding. But all clean and tidy. If you are looking for a getaway with no mod cons this is it! If you want 5* luxury stay away

Cows, chicken and dogs and right at the Mae Kok river makes for a beautiful setting. We stayed in a bamboo hut which was comfortable but very basic. Tribal children came to the hotel after dinner and performed a few songs. Dinner was plenty with lots of variety.

The setting is paradise. My family of 5 has stayed there 6 times over the last 4 years. A few of the villas are large enough for all 5 of us to share (the larger ones have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms). Food is very good but is moderately expensive and you should order about an hour before you want to eat. Charlie is a fantastic host. You can ask for a ride on the river via boat, you can kayak, and there is a swimming pool.

The resort is beautiful. full of authentic sculptures and designs. Each room is on a little hill separated from the others. In the room there are two big double beds with canopy as well as a dinning table and a wodden sofa. Arround the roon there are many windows over looking the amazing peacefull view. There is also a traditional privet shower. The room doesn't have an aircondition but the ceiling fans are good enough, There is little swimming pool open until the evening. The stuff is very pleasant and the beautiful restaurant offers nice breakfast and dinner for a fair price. After dinner the children from the nextdoor village came for a little folklore songs show. The athmosphere is great starting with the long tail boat comming to pich us up. The only regrat is staying there for just one night.
