Izmir is a city with a heavy problem in accommodation: there is a stark lack of boutique hotels and, in fact, hotels with character. Thankfully, Antik Han, which I discovered by chance back in 2004, has been my address during my several visits to Izmir over the last years. It was recently restored. Its courtyard with the huge lemon tree... More

This hotel is of historical interest and is one of the oldest in Izmir. It is quaint and cute although some would say run down.. yes could do with a little up dating and a lick of paint but it is very authentic. The staff were very helpful, Valet parking was fast and efficient, Breakfast was plentiful. Tea and coffee... More

The pictures of this "hotel" are totally misleading. My partner and I were expecting a quaint hotel full of antiques however what we got was a tatty, old, run down b and b down a dodgy street in a bad part of the city. The room smelt musty as we walked in and the bed covers stank of smoke. The... More

Easy to find just between harbour/city center and bus station (convenient for trips with public transport and shorter stays), calm, nice owner who speaks English fluently - squeaky bed, bathroom ok

The hotel is in a beautiful old building, a han (where the camel caravans used to break their journey). The inner courtyard is lovely to sit in, the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. The rooms are small and some are on two levels with the beds on the upper floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the room... More

Our first poor hotel experience in Turkey. The room was incredibly overpriced for the quality - had the look like it might have been a grander hotel once but has since gotten a bit decrepit. The hotel was practically empty but we were given a twin room when I had booked a double, it reeked of cigarette smoke and there... More

Although the hotel is technically walking distance to the waterfront, it is almost a 30 min walk to the nicest areas of the city. It is also off a slightly run down road near the Bazaar. Rooms are simple and clean but smell like smoke. The hotel is a little pricey for its condition.

All the staff at Antik Han was very pleasant and welcoming, both when making the booking and during our stay. However there was something about the hotel which made me uncomfortable. I stayed with my parents and my mother had the same feeling, although my father was fine. So in general I would say that maybe as a lone woman... More

I found myself in Izmir and needed a hotel for a couple of nights (I was stopping off to visit Ephesus, on my way from Istanbul to the Agean resorts in the south). Izmir is not a very touristy destination, just a big, bustling (and to be honest quite ugly) city, but is a convenient stopping off point. This hotel... More

the Antik Han Hotel is a hidden treasure in Izmir! it's in a historic building -- the former home of Ataturk's father -- and it's charming. centered around a lovely courtyard, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, have free internet access, and it's so quiet and peaceful you'd never guess that just outside is the bustle of a major city...
