We booked 2 lower rate standard rooms. Upon arrival at Hirayu Onsen we called to request for their free pick-up from the bus stop near the ryokan (Nakau Kougen Gutchi Bus Stop). Once alighting from the bus there was a minivan waiting for us. Otherwise it would have taken us around 10 minutes slow walk. Check-in was smooth and we... More

If you are taking the bus, it's a 5mins walk from the Nakao Kogen Guchi bus stop. The amazing thing was the bus driver called ahead without our asking and then approached us to confirm our nationality and then got off the bus to show us the direction to go in the middle of a snow storm! The ryokan is... More

We went there for one night, as part of a 10 day trip through japan. Location is simply fantastic. It does time to get there though. There were plenty of baths, the indoor baths have the postcard view on the river and the mountains, the mixed outdoor baths are more enclosed, but still have a nice view on the river.... More

The Yarimikan is not for everyone. Sited in the remote valleys of the Okuhida, the Yarimikan is known for its seven atmospheric onsen baths, mostly rotemburo and interestingly, konnyoku (mixed bathing). The room we got was pretty moderately sized and came with not many frills. The food was good but not particularly memorable - although I have to say this... More

This a very beautiful hotel with amazing hot springs. We have spend here one night and wa asked for a suite with a private open air bath. Our room was very very big with a seperate livingroom, a seperate bedroom, a seperate bathroom and especially a very big private open air hot spring. Everything was very beautfully decorated. We stayed here one night in the hope for some over the top luxury, one of the best meals of my life, and some very relaxing baths. In short, we were deeply disappointed. The baths are extremely hot even in warm weather, there's no adjustment (as I assumed, seeing as bathing in hot water when it's 35C/95F is madness). The... More

Yarimikan is a wonderful experience. The place is tastefully done up, the hotsprings are nice, the rooms are big and clean. The only cons that I could ever think of is the expensive price. Its 31,800 Yen per night including breakfast and dinner. Thats not cheap. But once u set your foots to the venue, you will understand why you... More

I stayed one night at Yarimikan with my partner during autumn. I have stayed in quite a few ryokan - from mid range to luxury and Yarimikan was towards the higher end of prices but was certainly well worth every yen. The rooms at Yarimikan are nice, however the real main event here are the hot springs alongside the river.... More

My husband and I stayed 1 night and wished we had 2 nights instead. We took Nohi bus (approx. 2 hrs ride from Takayama), when you get off the bus, make sure you are facing the road tunnel, the small road leads to Yarimikan is on the right as the sign is all hidden behind the trees. Yarimikan is extremely... More

My wife and I stayed at the Yarimikan from 24 - 25 Feb 2009. We drove a rental car from Takayama Station. It can be a little tricky to find, as the turnoff for the ryokan came immediately after the exit from a road tunnel near Shin-Hotaka Onsen. But once there, the cares of the world seemed to melt away... More
