The place requires updating and refurbishing. We would not recommend there are stains on the soft furnishings and it all looks a bit tired and dingy. We regret booking there considering there are so many nicer places in the price range. We were also charged a late fee. We left the room, nine minutes after 11.00am, I personally was glad to get out but the teenagers were slow to pack. We feel bad for the staff. They are trying their best. It could be a great place to stay if it was completely refurbished.

First the area is very nice. This is really relaxing to be in the forest along a lake after you have spent few days in Tokyo. Nice temples to see around. Unfortunately the sky was cloudy and we could not spot the Mount Fuji from our large window. The rooms with tatami are really typical and offers a very unique experience. You go to dinner or breakfast with kimono and we of course enjoyed the indoor and outdoor onsen (spa with very hot water). Be careful no tattoo are allowed and you need to be fully naked when bathing. Food was very good as well.

I booked this hotel via a hotel reservation site. Looked lovely in the pictures and did not disappoint. They offer a shuttle from odawara station 3 times a day, which makes it super convenient for those traveling by bus or train. Very lovely location with amazing views of Fuji and lake Ashi! Staff are friendly and rooms are spacious and well appointed. Cuisine was delicious and varied and I really appreciated their effort in being careful as I have allergies to certain spices. Being kaiseki it can be difficult and sometimes impossible to accommodate the more severe ones due to cross contamination, so was really happy that they managed to reduce my allergen exposure by omitting certain dishes. Would suggest to the property to suggest to those that book via an app that they may want to upgrade to the beef sukiyaki or shabu shabu… it looked amazing and I was wondering how to order it! But we were so full from our dinner course! As the app does not provide the menu option but the hotel website does…. Note to self is to research the property before staying. Hotel amenities were great with ample towels and yukatas for onsen use! Tea and coffee in room were really good and they provided a little tea time snack. Small gift shop onsite for thoughtful gifts!! 20-30 minute scenic walk to motohakone, but they also provide a shuttle from 11-7. Definitely a wonderful place to base yourself for exploring hakone!! Highly recommended!!

Ryokan with beautiful view of Lake Ashi, great onsen. Staff are very helpful and polite. They help us set up futon on the first day. We can see Fuji-san from our room. Location is quite disconnected so make sure you get dinner outside before you come or book hotel dinner. Pet zoo and bus stop is right outside but the bus only runs till 5pm or so.

What a wonderful three nights of get away. Excellent view of Mt Fuji and above all- the food is amazing and frankly- a bit too much. Excellent services and love the indoor and outdoor bath. Shops are cool and like the karaoke too. Love the stay and the staff

Nestled in the heart of Hakone is a gem of a resort that would rest the mind, quieten the heart and sooth the body. Ryuguden promises a Ryokan experience with professional hotel service. We opted for the larger room with its own private onsen, and it was like living in your own little home, with the choice to dip in the hot and soothing onsen water at any time! The view was resplendent, with the quiet mountains, serene lake and ... Mt Fuji majestically perched between the hills. There is a ledge to sit on and just enjoy the view. There were two large rooms, a separate tea room for two and a separate sink and fridge area to prepare your tea. Hot and cold water all prepared. The staff were very professional, and those from Taiwan spoke both Mandarin and English fluently. Breakfast and dinner are provided, with high quality produce and served in the main dining hall, which looks like a high end Japanese restaurant. You wear your Yukata and the seating is reserved by room. Breakfast is four dishes and rice, served together and with Japanese tea. Dinner is a 7-8 course of high quality Japanese food. You CBA order beer or sake to accompany. The hotel onsen is available for guest use, as is the connected public onsen, where you get your own locker upon check in. Great place to relax, enjoy the scenery and put your city stress away, if just for a few days!

First time visit Ryokan and was impressed with the service provided. The service staff from Taiwan were exceptional good and gave us very impressive service. I remember we will planing a trip to the outlet stores and it was raining heavily and we will have difficulties to walk to the bus terminal which was 6 mins walk away. She asked her supervisor if he can give us a lift to the bus terminal and he agree to send us there without charging us which was a warm gesture from them. The onsen was great and they have few options you choose. The highlight of this hotel are the dinner. We get to eat fine Japanese cuisine. The hotel is near to some attractions which is short walk there. Would recommend this to family who wish to try it.

We had a couple of nights here after a hectic 3 week schedule in big cities in Japan and China. A great getaway for some peace and quiet and to recharge the batteries. The hotel is nice. The location is excellent - stunning views and nice walks. Stay away from the tourist shops, bus that goes in the water, bird shaped peddalos etc and just enjoy the scenery!! The traditional Japanese rooms are nice with a great view (the roll out beds aren’t the most comfortable thing in the world but part of the experience!) and the dinner (7 or 8 courses) was excellent.....no idea what some of it was, but being adventurous was fun and it all tasted excellent. Only complaint is we would have loved a decent coffee in the morning!! Also make sure you contact them to time your arrival at the train station to coincide with their bus service or you will have a long wait!

Very rude and unhelpful staff when it comes to allergies, food preferences, tattoos, and groups of foreigners traveling abroad. Highly recommend finding a place that is open to those traveling. Not here!!

My friend and I had a wonderful experience staying at Ryuguden during a recent visit to Hakone. The staff were really great and provided exceptional serive! From check-in to check-out Ryuguden's wonderful staff made us feel welcomed and appreciated. We opted to pay a little extra for the room with the private onsen and I'm glad we did as the main onsen's hours were a little limiting. The view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji was spectacular! The Kaiseki cuisine was not only very delicous to eat but beautiful to look as well. Breakfast and dinner were served in a separate dining room on the same floor as the rooms. A free shuttle is available to go from Odawara station to Ryuguden but only runs at certain times in the day. The winding roads to the hotel may be a bit rough for those not used it. We definitely would love to visit and stay at Ryuguden again and would highly recommend the inn to those visiting Hakone. Book early if you can.
