Kagoshima offers more than beautiful natural scenery: it also boasts a rich array of history, culture, gourmet delights, and so much more! The Sengan-en is a popular tourist destination in the area. Here you will find an enchanting Japanese garden overlooking the fantastic scenery of Mount Sakurajima. The garden was the pride and joy of the Shimazu clan, samurai lords of the former Satsuma Domain. The facility also houses a dining area, a gift shop where you can buy local goods, and other amenities. Nearby the Sengan-en are several buildings that have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as “Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution.” These include the Shoko Shuseikan Museum, at one time Japan’s oldest western-style machine factory in a stone building and now a museum where you can learn about the history of Japanese industry, and the Shuseikan Foreign Spinning Engineers' Residence, an important western-style mansion dating to 1867. Nearby the hotel you can discover a host of other attractions that the whole family will enjoy, including the Hirakawa Zoological Park, where you can encounter rare animals like the white tiger and the koala, and the Kagoshima City Aquarium, famous for its massive whale shark and popular dolphin show! Tenmonkan-dori Shopping Arcade is the largest gourmet center in Kagoshima Prefecture, and is also a great location to do some shopping and grab a bite to eat while you walk.

The room with the “Sea and mountain view” is only available for “Twin room”. In case you are solo traveler and stay in Single room and/or Double room, you may suffering from a dark atmosphere and noisy sound throughout the night, cuz this hotel is located near a local hospital and these rooms (Single/Double) are faced on this street side, not a sea side. If you stay on this side, you may hear ambulance siren getting closer every hour day and night. The bed size is small even if it says Double size. It’s quite difficult to sleep if guests use this small double bed shared with two adults. I booked Double room for a single use. When I booked, there’s no information about the view on the web pages. I was completely mislead by the hotel info, though I supposed to have a room with a beautiful view for 3 days. I expected to stay with a sea view and to do my paper work in the room for my job. But, I couldn’t stand to work with using my laptop PC in the dark room filled with mold smell, for 3 nights. Their website is not a traveler friendly. Their foreign websites pages never be able to see. Not only just pictures looks more attractive than real, but also it’s stated fake information regarding the Access (how to get there by public transportation). The bus, stated on the website, has been suspended since the Covid-19 outbreak, but they didn’t amend this most important information for a traveler for more than 3 years. If you want to stay this hotel with a nice view, I definitely recommend you to book Twin room, though I don’t know what the actual Twin room view is. Still, it must be better than Single/Double room, as far as I can see their website. The spa, where’s on the noisy street side with no view, in my opinion, it looks not good. The bottom stones in the bathtub are covered with black mold and green moss, so I didn’t take it. More worse, the place is easy to look down from the street side room window. That’s is the reason they accept to wearing swimsuits for the spa. So this is NOT Japanese style onsen/ public bath. This hotel should think about what customer really needs and expect for, instead of preparing meaningless facilities or how to take a beautiful pictures as an advertisement. Otherwise, more attractive pictures makes more disappointment. Customer always needs real information to book, neither a fake info nor a partially hidden information, especially we need more info to stay with elders and children. To reach to the spa in this hotel, any guests need to go to the 3rd floor first, by taking the elevator which is set on the central area of the hotel building, then next, need to walk through this hotel corridor to the end, then have to down to the first floor again by the steep outside stairs with no handrails (no escalator/elevator on this side), because the spa and pools are located on the first floor. It’s so weird. The outside stairs are supposed to be used for an emergency exit, though there’s no handrails. I could easily imagine this 3rd floor may be so noisy during the summer season by the people who are walking through the corridor and heading to the pools, from all of the floors. (Probably only in the summer season, the pools was completely covered with green sheets when I was there.) Wheelchairs and the anyone who has troubles on his/her legs are never able to access to this pool and hot spa. As for Laundry room, there are a few stairs in the room, again. It has no explanation in other languages, so you may difficult to see how to use it. More precisely, you need to go to the front desk first before you use it to get a detergent to wash your clothes. It happens sometimes in Japan. Because only some good & new type washing machines has automatic detergent system. Here, if you use the washing machine with no detergent, all of your clothes will get stinky smells after you wash your clothes. The staff I met at the check-in, had no explanation to me regarding free cosmetic samples and paper disposable slippers. I wish I could know they have these service, so that I did not need to buy it at the convenience store after I checked in. Actually, they have plastic slippers in the room. But who can wear this? I don’t want to have any slippers which someone had once on their bare foot. Good thing is, the ladies, front staffs were really nice, friendly and helpful when I asked some questions on the very last day. I think the front staff is the person who represents of the hotel. In this means, the guy who I met at the check-in was not a suitable person as a person who represents this hotel. He did just check-in procedures, that’s it. If I could have some more information in advance, the impressions of this hotel could be different. The automatic check-in machine is enough if the front desk staff has no explanations about their services and hotel facilities. Even if the guests arrive at late at night, detailed hotel specific information is must. The appearance of this hotel is old but looks nice. Clean enough. But unfortunately, the old bathroom has black mold stains on the narrow gap between the top panel and edges of the wash basin, which has some cracks, as well as the backside of soap dish by a bathtub was covered with black mold. Because of this mold, probably the bathroom has awful smell. So, I had kept opening of the room window during my stay to reduce the mold smell. As a result, the outside noise reach to the room well. For the child, if window opens, it maybe one thing to be considered as a safety issue. They have a lovely cafeteria on the first floor with gorgeous views, so I didn’t care about the food when I booked. However, the restaurant is always closed on the weekday and open for a few hours but breakfast time for the guests. At night, they open other eel restaurant, but I am not sure that it’s worth it or not, cuz it’s on the street side. Anyway , I really couldn’t to have a motivation to use any facilities/ restaurants after I saw the mold in the water facility in the room and the spa. I didn’t want to get foods from a convenience store for 3 days every day, but it couldn’t be helped, because there’s no restaurant near the hotel at all. The sad thing is, for 3 days, I had no conversation with any hotel staffs until I asked something to the front desk on the last day of my stay. I never hear greetings, such as “Welcome”, “Good morning” or “Hi” in this hotel during my stay. I can say this is typical old local Japanese style. They try to keep some distance from a customer as an old Japanese elder’s manner, I think. But how the people come from other countries feel? They may say the staff is not friendly. Not only I was suffering from noises from the street, but also couldn’t see any views from the window with enjoying a cup of coffee/tea neither my room nor the cafeteria. In this point of view, the room cost looks cheep but it was not reasonable because the cost was almost same as the hotels near Tenmonkan, convenient area, easy access place from central Kagoshima station. In case there’s no view with same cost, it’s better to stay in the central bustling area, even though it’s noisy place with no window, so that I could have a local dinner. The worst thing is, there’s no public transportation system from the nearest station, Kagoshima central, after 20:00. It takes more than 20 minutes from Kagoshima central station by bus. In case you take a taxi, the cost nearly 3, 000yen to go and back. With this additional cost, you may find better place or may have lovely dinner in the central area. According to their website, they have a convenient direct access from the airport by bus with no stress, however that’s not a truth. I send a text to them how to get there, but there’s no answer until I asked them whether they got a message from me or not, that was the last day before the check-out. If you want to stay with gorgeous view, here is the location, but “Twin room” only. If you eager to have local food, this is NOT a place. Do not believe information on their website. The information is not enough. Do not send any text/mails even if you have any questions. Even though it’s written in Japanese, you may not have any answers from them before you leave there. In Kagoshima, the customer service for the tourist from other countries has not started yet. Do not expect same services as Tokyo. In this means, this is one of the real local places in Japan. Most of the information is written in Japanese only. NO “ladies first” concept. You may see real Japan in Kagoshima prefecture. Please do not expect too much kindly support if you are a solo traveler and woman.

Initially, I was very unhappy with the stuffy motel-like room with eery view of Sakurajima volcano. . . and very poor room air conditioning. It was a view that included a sort of ugly marina area. However, the concierge and hotel staff was cute and helpful. I got used to it there and it felt like home eventually, just a short walk from where I needed to go every day. I was there for 10 days. The hotel breakfast buffet had lots of edible items, so I didn’t starve. Breakfast ended at 9:30 am, which is strange by western standards. The lunch buffet was the same as the breakfast buffet. Dinner was at a hotel restaurant that boasted “fish guts” on the menu. . . as well as shark fin and other endangered sealife. No thank you. We endured Typhoon Khanun for four days at this hotel. Sadly, the hotel did not provide food for its guests during the typhoon beyond its monotonous breakfast buffet. In a country familiar with typhoons, you would think they would provide at very least food for its stranded guests during typhoons! Instead, guests had to run across the street to a 7-11 store, during the typhoon, to get food, only to find this convenience store closed. I appreciated that the lobby had an escalator. Staff speaks very little English, but it’s nothing the Google Translate app can’t handle. They were good at calling taxis for me. There is a lovely grocery store not far from the hotel, but most guests don’t know about it.

Although the hotel is out of the main centre and more in the port side. You can simply catch the number 16 bus into tow for 200Yen and see the sights which makes for a great day trip. Hotel has quite a few amenities and the rooms are a decent size. Hotel is opposite a 7eleven store and an amazing ramen shop is around the corner. Rooms offer a great view of the sakurajima volcano.

Very friendly and helpful staff, but their English is a bit limited. However, Kagoshima is not the most touristy area for foreigners, so it is also understanble. The room was spacious and came with a great view on the bay and Sakurajima (make sure to ask for a room on the water side, not the city side). The bed and pillow are a bit hard, but not overly and allowed for a good night’s rest. The bathroom was relatively small, but did what it had to do. The only downside was the smell of smoke. Although we were located on a non-smoking floor, years of smoking have infused everything with a lingering smell of smoke. It is not persistent, but if you are sensitive to it, you will surely notice. The hotel is situated a bit outside the tourist area with shops and restaurants, so a rental car is certainly nice to have. They offer parking at a reasonable fee.

Excellent view of volcano is the good point as well as nice staff with excellent steak dinner restaurant. The room was very plain, no control of the heating which is fixed centrally and was too high. Not conducive to a good sleep. Outside of the city’s central area may be good for business trips to that area but not convenient for exploring the city. No fresh fruit —-only canned fruit salad at breakfast was not awe inspiring. One can do better for sure elsewhere. Wish we had.

The 10th floor from the moment you get off the elevator smelled like black mold. The room, smelled like black mold. Luckily I left the window open, and only got sick for 3 days because of it. I'm not talking about a little mildew either. Like the whole 10th floor needs to be gutted and redone, they must have a leaking roof or something. I was wondering what the girls behind the counter were laughing at when I left the check in counter and knew when I got upstairs. They were still laughing when I left after my first of three nights. because I honestly did not want to get a full blown respiratory infection on vacation. I checked the other floors and they seemed fine. If they give you a room on the 10th floor tell them NO. It was also well outside of the city and away from anything you would want to see.

This was the highlight of our trip. Even though we stayed in best rated onsen resorts in kirishima during the end of our trip, i personally liked the experience of this hotel. We booked it for 4 nights. Room: ocean view with balcony. The view is amazing. Volcano right in front. The room was quite large and everything in hotel seems of great quality. Extremely quite and comfy.

This "resort" has seen better days. The staff were nice and friendly and on a clear day you wouldget nice views of Sakurajima, but the location is a bit inconvenient (about ¥1500 in a taxi from Kagoshima-chuo Station). There is a convenience store across the road from the entrance and I did enjoy a run along the sea wall.

This is a big hotel fairly close to the ferry terminals. All rooms have a small balcony overlooking the port side with great view of the sunset if the weather is good. It has direct view of the Sakurajima across the bay, the volcano on top of the island has been having mini eruptions frequently. The hotel seemed to cater a particular niche to host large weddings with bridal services and large banquet rooms. It has a paid parking which was essential to our stay. Hardware is a bit dated but the room is clean and comfortable.
