Detailed Reviews
This was our third visit to the Yeng Keng Hotel and I wasn't going to write another review but this time I wanted to compliment all of the staff on their genuinely friendly service and professionalism. We stayed for 5 nights in the Chulia Suite and the room itself was spotless and spacious, having the extra lounge room to sit and relax away from the bedroom. We were also surprised to see that a complimentary bottle of red wine and small cakes were on the minibar for having a return visit. The hotel itself is well presented and the pool area quiet and private. Thanks to all at the Yeng Keng, we'll be back for our 4th visit as soon as possible.

A lovely and cozy hotel filled with old world charm. It is in a strategic location within walking distance to most of the local attractions. My daughter and I had a wonderful 4-day stay. The delightful staff, Devraj, Kallen and Nanda provided great hospitality attending to our needs and requests. When we checked in to our rooms, we were surprised with balloons and a birthday cake as I had told them it would be my daughter's birthday.
The restaurant puts out a sumptuous breakfast spread every morning consisting of local delights and western food, and there is a constant supply of snacks and drinks at the bar counter at the front porch.
It is a place we would definitely come back to should we ever visit Penang again. Highly recommended!
Tip: We needed to change some money and was recommended to go to one down the street (2 traffic lights' down from the hotel). DO NOT use that money changer at the intersection. We were given a horrendous rate!

What a lovely staycation! This was my first time at this heritage boutique hotel that looks like a private mansion with a Chinese arch out front. A very personable place with a sense of history and a light touch of luxury. The main building was originally a bungalow, now elegantly restored and decorated like the home of a successful colonial-era merchant. The two blocks at the rear used to be a gentlemen’s social club. My little room with a Queen size bed is upstairs towards the back – nice and snug with a view of the pool. My bathroom is tiny, but clean and adequate. The hotel is located along a busy street, but being inset a bit makes a world of difference. You feel completely insulated from the traffic outside. The location is excellent – Penang Road and other popular streets are just a few minutes’ walk away. The Yeng Keng Restaurant next door looks posh but I ate there only once simply because there were many interesting restaurants, cafés, coffeeshops, bars and hawker stalls nearby, many of which are popular with locals (always a good sign!). If you want to know what’s good to eat nearby, ask one of the front office guys – Raj, Adly and Nanda, all very friendly and efficient. They can even buy it back for you. Wonderful!

This hotel is in a very historic building, beautifully restored, right in the heart of Chulia Street. So the location is brilliant. The hotel has a nice restaurant which at the present time does not offer breakfast. Instead you order breakfast the night before from a list taken from hawker type stalls and it is delivered to the hotel next morning. So Asian food only which will be cold by the time you get it. Tea and coffee are served with powdered creamer; no milk.
The room I had was very small. When sitting at the desk my chair was tight against the bed so another person could not have got past. Likewise the bathroom was pinched in, the wash hand basin tight beside the shower cubicle. The shower was not powerful and had no adjustment on the shower head. Each room has its own water heater and you have to remember to turn this on 10 minutes before you shower otherwise it is cold water.
Surprisingly the room had no USB plugs for charging laptops and ‘phones.
At more than MYR 300 a night the hotel gets 10 out of 10 for artistic impression and 3 out of 10 for technical merit.

My initial plan was to stay at Nam Keng Hotel Penang (Sister Property) with my wife to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary and during the stay day, the reception inform me that my room air conditioner was not working and they have arranged my stay at Yeng Keng Hotel Penang.
Guess what? The Amazing & WOW experience start to happened when we step in their property. The Manager, Ms. Yeoh and the team was understand well what do the guess want. They know very well their are in the people business. The way of the communicate & interact make me feel so Nice, Humor, Friendly & Comfort.
We can feel their Passion on this hospitality industry. They always step a head further by provide their service before we start to request. In another word, they live in the Proactive way to deal with customer.
In terms of the room, yes, I gonna to admit the space is small but to me is fine. As I have working in boutique hotel before and the space normally not as huge as the corporate hotel. Although the space is small but the amenities is complete for Free Independent Traveler (FIT) like me. Besides, the room & the property design was fully reflect & telling the local culture of it.
In terms of the service. The manager & the crew provide an Excellent service. They share with us the history of the property, the local delicious food (secret of indulge the local food) & attraction place around their property.
In terms of the location. Well, it is center at the town location, you can just walk out and easy access the local delicacies and local cultural attraction places.
As a conclusion, my wife and me feel Happy, Satisfy, Wow, Amazing with this staying experience and we don't feel that wanna to end the journey and go back home. We will be definitely come back to stay again and promote to our friends.

+1
I have stayed in many hotels, but the staff in this one were the most pleasant,
friendly and helpful I have ever come across. Every person who worked at this hotel
smiled and said good morning and asked if we needed anything, every day. What great customer service. I did not get the names of people, but I do remember Raj and the other young lady on the reception who always had a welcoming smile. When
we arrived we were immediately given a nice drink and welcomed. The lady at the barrier offered to carry our luggage, but I said I was ok to carry it. Everyone was so helpful. What a wonderful place. We had a few lovely conversations with the manager who was also so pleasant and helpful, suggesting places to visit. A young guy came and cleaned our room every day and again he always had a smile on his face. This hotel is very historic and had a traditional décor inside and outside. The rooms are lovely and cool with both air conditioning and a fan. There was a free
breakfast every day in the restaurant and it was possible to have anything you wanted. My favourite part of this hotel was the swimming pool which I used every day which was situated in the courtyard surrounded by plants and shrubs. The Yeng Keng Hotel is situated right in the centre of Penang and is ideal if you want to walk
to places. I also used the Grab taxes a few times which are really cheap. I would
certainly recommend this hotel. Thank you to everyone who works there and made our stay so memorable. (Ashley & Shun).

We stayed here three. Ights. This is a lovely hotel. Beautifully Renovated. Very clean and comfortable. The service is first rate. Raj really helped us out and the hotel manager could not have been more attentive and accommodating. The room was very clean
Our only criticism is that the bed was a little hard.
The parking out the back was very convenient and the location is central to many great sites and restaurants however it is back from the road and very quiet.
We will be back!!

We spent 6 nights here earlier this month. It is a beautiful old building with character. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Room and facilities were very clean and breakfast includes western and local options. A number of sitting options around the premises for guests to use. Great location to explore George Town and surrounding areas, a short walking distance to a range of food options and bars. Only down side was the mattresses were very hard, which comes down to personal preferences.

Three aspects stand out for me, about our recent holiday stay at Yeng Keng:
First: The staff are wonderful. ALL of them were friendly, cheerful, helpful, thoughtful ..... a joy to interact with, and great sources of information.
Second: The building is beautiful inside and out. It’s lovely to sit in the air well between the parallel blocks holding the rooms, or in the lounge above the reception. The light comes in beautifully and there is a serene aspect to the place that makes sitting with a book or cup of coffee a delight. The restaurant has a large air well over the preparation/serving area with provides a lovely feel to the whole place.
Third: Location. The hotel gave us very easy walking access to eating places, markets, sightseeing venues. It was Super easy to get a Grab car/taxi.
I would strongly recommend Yeng Keng to friends wanting to explore Georgetown, especially but not exclusively on foot. Our stay was peaceful, comfortable and filled with warmth. Congratulations to the team there for setting up such a lovely holiday experience.

Yeng Keng is an excellent hotel if you want to stay in the old center of George Town. Despite the location you have less noise in the room. The room is beautiful, clean, airconditioned and equipped with all conveniences. The hotel is well maintained and very beautiful. The swimming pool is an absolute bonus in this hot city (including available beach towels). Very nice to cool down after exploring the city. The breakfast is very good and extensive. You can also enjoy a good meal in the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
