This resort has been closed for about 5 years. I stayed there it was not flash but it did have some good features. I was looking to try it again but could not get any information on rates so I ended up emailing one of the tourist service agencies via Facebook.

We feel so sorry for the staff at this hotel who are absolutely marvellous, but would have to be able to walk on water to please some holidaymakers. We have been twice to this resort and simply loved it on each occasion. It's idyllic setting on the South China Sea combined with a five kilometer UNCROWDED sandy beach made this an ideal choice for a relaxing holiday. For people who want a lot of organised activities all day long - this is not for you. Having said that however, we went on all the included excursions, visited Sepilock and the Rasa Ria hotel, and made several trips to the capital Kota Kinabalu by the hotel's courtesy bus. Kota Kinabalu has several upmarket department stores where you can replenish your wardrobe at very reasonable prices! We went on Saga's all inclusive package which we felt represented very good value for money. We must again mention the wonderful friendly staff for whom nothing was too much trouble and always greeted you with a radiant smile (whether at 7.00a.m. in the morning or 11.00.p.m. at night) The Saga reps, ably led by Melanie, were always very helpful, but did not constantly hassle you to book excursions. On our second visit we were delighted to be presented with a lovely silk table runner - because we had gone there twice. We found the accommodation comfortable and our room had a balcony looking out to sea. The flight of course is long, but we found Brunei Airlines perfectly O K and the staff were quite attentive and always bringing cold drinks around. The fact that it was a "dry" airline did not bother us. In conclusion we would say that the hotel would benefit from a little TLC in the public rooms, especially the lounge, and some visible management would have been welcome when minor problems arose. We would however come back - but we rather think that Saga have dropped it off their brochure- no doubt trying to please guests who expect 5 star treatment all the time when, in fact, they have not paid for anything of the kind.

I went there for business trip for two night, cannot find in in my GPS since the name was change from Sabandar Bay Resort. Since I stayed on weekday, there is only 2 or 3 rooms occupied on that day. So its very privacy, since nobody there. Breakfast are serve but not in buffet, so you have to order from their menu. Room was OK and their swimming pool still OK. The only problem it was to far from town 42km from airport and 12km to Tuaran. The road to the resort was very bad. 3km narrow road with pot holes. So the only thing was OK in the resort is privacy.. you can go swim alone at the beach or in the pool.

This was obviously a nice hotel when it was built, but could do with a bit of sprucing up. It's not terrible, it's OK, but by Malaysia standards is not a good deal. I managed to stay in a 5* in Penang for £20 less than here. It's also a long way from Kota Kinabalu and anywhere else you might want to go. The fact that the last couple of km are down a bumpy country lane doesn't help. I caters mainly for groups from Saga, the UK holiday company for the elderly, and so is almost deserted when they aren't around. If you want to get away from it all for a couple of days, fine, but no longer - there really is nothing to do and nowhere to go here.

This hotel was unkept and run down food was boring and they run out of basic foods like lemons red wine for a day milk one night. The pool decking was rotten the umbrellas past there sell by.The towel,s were grey and all had rust marks on,one day mine had lipstick on just dirty. The cups were washed under a cold water tap we saw that for our selves and they also were all stained. The drinks lounge was very dirty the tables were really wiped, there was a cobweb on one lampshade and spider the whole two weeks we were there. The air con in our room constantly dripped on the floor they put a towel on the floor to catch it that was there for two weeks.I could go on and on but it would take to long this was a holiday from hell that my husband and i would like to forget.

We stayed for two nights on our arrival in Borneo and two nights on our return. We very much enjoyed our stay each time, the food was reasonable, the free bar was a pleasure and the staff always friendly and helpful. The resort would be a good place to stay longer.

This is the worse hotel I have ever stayed in. The running water went off 10 times in two weeks; once for 12 hours and once for 6 hours. Frequently, when the water was on there was no hot water. The general maintenance of the hotels was extremely poor; rusted through downpipes, missing guttering, rotting decking around the pool, broken sunshades only held up by rusty nails, no air conditioning in main restaurant, water features not working so filled with stagnant water, broken easy chairs in the bar. The food was of poor quality and there was insufficient quantities. Items on the menus were more often than not unavailableand basic items of food ran out (one day no bread) as did the beer twice and the gin once. Not good when you are "all inclusive". Food was uncovered even though there were flies in the restaurant. Add stained towels and face cloths and torn and stained bed linen and you have the holiday from hell.

We visited this hotel in November/December and found it to be great. The staff were really friendly and helpful.Mathilda the rep was excellent and could not do enough for us.Its Sagas loss that she has now moved on.We did have a few problems with the water supply but they were fixed promptly. The rooms were kept very clean. We found the food was excellent and varied. The included trips were very good. The downside was the approach road to the hotel which was unmade and full of potholes. After a long trip from the nearest town it was the last thing you wanted. Nevertheless an excellent holiday.

Our family of 5 just spent 5 days at Tuaran Beach Resort and had a fantastic time. This is a decidedly 3 star resort but has many things to offer. Firstly, the beach was just outside the door of our 3 bedroom villa which our kids took full advantage of. The pool was beautifully kept, the food was of a good standard particularly the local dishes. Prescilla the guest liaison officer was first class and all the tours arranged both by her and our travel agent at home were well organised, on time, great fun and good value. Tuaran is not very close to Kota Kinabalu but we found that the transport organised by the resort to be efficient. One downside is the road into the resort itself which is a bit of a goat track. Overall, a good value family holiday destination.

I recently stayed here aug 2010 with my partner. We booked 6 days and left after 2 days here is why..... 1) We where told it was 45mins away - Its more like an hour! 2) You have to book the shuttle bus 24 hours in advance and before 5pm so if like us you get there after 5pm on sat and want to go to the city for a few drinks you cant because you did not book 24 hours in advance and you cant do anything on the sunday either because its too late to book that either. Even though it says on their website you can book within a couple of hours! 3) Taxis needs to be booked 2 hours in advance. 100RM one way to city. 15RM one way using their shuttle bus. 4) They only seem to have 1 bus which holds about 10 people but the resort has about 100rooms so if like us you book late but within the time if all the seats are taken then you cant go! 5) Cant stay longer than 9pm in the city if getting the shuttle back as thats the last time of the shuttle from the city. 6) They have a man made beach about 50meters long. The only way to access the rest of the real beach is to either go through the sea of jump a fence which we had to do as the water level was too high to go through the sea. 7) Internet is very very poor there and hardly worked and the staff had no clue how to fix it, luckily I work with computers and was able to fix it once! 8) NO Amenities - only one little shop in the resort. Nearest shop is 30mins drive away. 9) No money exchange or cashpoint around so if you want to book a tour and have no cash - tough luck! 10) Its 10RM to hire the bicycles for 1 hours but there is no where to go ridding! Joke!! We wasted 3 days there and left on the 3rd day and enjoyed the hotel's and islands in the city! We where sooo happy we left. If you want to see the city or other island don't go here!!
