We stayed in Kinabalu Backpackers for one night in a private standard room that can accomodate 2 person with RM 52 per room and RM 30 for key deposit. It was room 2, Rafflesia. The bedroom itself is okay and quite spacey. Clean. Wardrobe, dressing table and chair with queen bed. The aircond is working. They provided with two blanket; one blanket is enough for a person. In the kitchen, the provided breakfast with ready made coffee and tea. Breakfast time is from 7 am to 10 am. They have toaster and oven. A small table is placed outside the kitchen, in the veranda. Washing machine is available at the veranda. The washroom and shower room is quite narrow. I think its quite a reasonable price, compared to other b&b or backpackers that usually cost about RM 60-80. Checkout time is 11am.

We stayed here for two nights just after arrrving in Borneo. Most people come to KK to make plans and go on somewhere else and I would agree that's the best thing to do. We arrived at 3am and reception was still open - well, the lady was asleep but still checked us in. Private room we stayed in was basic but clean and tidy, showers ok, not hot but I've been backpacking in Asia for 6 months and they are never hot. Breakfast was just toast but you can get some fruit from the market by the waterfront and that'll get you going for the day. I agree that hotel staff are not the friendliest or most helpful so you'll need to make your own plans. This hotel is a cheap place for a couple of days but nothing more than that. Why anyone would stay in KK longer is beyond me.

Unfriendly staff, lady at desk seemed like she couldn't be bothered. Barely said a word, went through the door and was welcomed by the strong smell of urine. This smell carried on up to near our room, which was right next to the toilets that smelt. In this same area is where you have breakfast, we went somewhere else because it was so unclean. Our double bed was about as comfy as a cobbled street, worst bed we've slept on in Asia. All round awful hostel would not recommend.

Location is conveniently close to the centre of town, in an area of trendy redevelopment. This hostel is definitely worthy of consideration. Staff are friendly, reserved, and always on hand if help is required.

The most decent and homely guesthouse we found. Perhaps because this is the only place we were attended by the owner after we knocked on several other doors. A refurbished old shophouse into 5 small rooms upstairs (1 of them is dorm). You have to take off shoes here but cleanliness is as good as home. Our bed sheet was suspiciously stained with sticky watery thing but we got a change. Other than that the place is good for budget goers and right in the town centre. Just a min away fr gaya street. Bread and coffee is provided in the mornings, and you can even do simple washing.

On tight budget and just to stay for a rest maybe valuable rather than that the breakfast is just okay. It is quite far from the main road but the view and very cold at night. Hikers is most probably staying here for the activities.

We stayed in a double-bed room, with shared bathroom. Room was spacious, with basic equipment. Bathroom very basic. Simple breakfast available. Staff were helpful. Location quite convenient, with many restaurants around.

On arrival NOT IMPRESSED! Staff not at all helpful, didn't even get up from in front of the tv to check us in and made no attempt to show us where to find our room or bathrooms etc. Mixed rooms only and the place is not particularly clean. The most disappointing part though was that about 2 minutes after we arrived we realised it was not the place we'd wanted to stay at with friends so we asked for our money back and were refused point blank. Normally I wouldn't be bothered by that it as it was our mistake but in this case we hadn't even touched the room, so we literally paid just to stand in the reception area and be treated rudely. My tip: check out the place across the road for only a couple extra ringgit.

Great if you're looking for a simple place to stay near the city centre. Pros: Good AC in the dorm room, cheap (20rm for dorm), WiFi is good, clean, good location 2 minutes from Gaya Street Cons: No social area, very few people staying there, the staff don't know any costumer service (they don't smile or seem very welcoming)

As i keep returning to KK i stayed in this hostel many times and i would never stay elsewhere, 20RM for clean A/C dorm and 50RM for A/C double room(which is big enough, with wardrobe, mirror, table and chair),and you even get discount if you stay few days so the price is really unbeatable, the whole place is clean, rooms are clean, they have lockers, they have breakfast and balcony as well, the place is quiet what is what we like and the staff is helpful. I was staying in nearly every hostel in KK but nothing can compare to this.
