Wow! This is 5 star living in the wild. Our room was massive with two double beds and one single, all covered in mosquito nets as the 4th wall of the room is missing - just wide open to the jungle. The building is built on stilts so you don't get snakes etc in your room but you do get... More

We loved loved loved the rainforest expeditions organized trip to Tambopata Reserve. Rainforest Expeditions have 3 refugios in the amazon: Posada Amazonas, Refugio Amazonas and Tambopata Research Centre. They are listed in increasing distance from Puerto Maldonado. The more interior you go in the rainforest, the better experience you'll have. We stayed at RA because TRC would have required an... More

After reading the other reviews, I knew what to expect from this place, but my kids were mystified by the whole experience. They loved the hammocks on the second floor of the lodge and in the rooms. They loved the openness. They were not big fans of the cold showers- but they are only 6, 8, & 10. They felt... More

The jungle experience at Refugio was fantastic starting with the boat trip where I saw these massive rodents called capaybara. The forest lodge was a perfect balance of accommodation and wilderness; it was surrounded and open to the captivating jungle, yet it was far more comfortable than camping because the rooms/bedding and lounge areas were great. I am a relatively... More

Having recently returned from a trip around Peru, the visit to Refugio was one of the unexpected jewels in the many wonderful experiences in Peru. The lodge building and ethos of the place and staff ticked every box . A pleasing balance of eco management married to good standards of basic comfort (loved my comfy bed in a room opening to... More

Our journey from Puerto Maldonaldo to Refugio was to be by motorized canoe and mini van, but as torrential rain had flooded the road, we travelled by canoe upstream all the way. So, was this now five hour canoe trip boring? No way! It was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing days I had in Peru! Our guide shared... More

Just got back from the trip and was very sad to leave the place. It was a longer upstream boat ride to the lodge than back to the airport. Despite having no hot water for shower and limited period for electricity, I grew to love the place. great food (always looking forward to meal times - 6am, 1pm, 7pm), lovely... More

The Lodge is absolutely beautiful! We were sweating the whole time but it didnt matter because it was such an awesome experience. If you always wanted to go to the amazon then you won't be dissapointed with this place. It's also easy to combine this trip with a trip to Machu Picchu or even the Galapagos. More

I recently stayed at The Refugio Amazonas in a small group of ten persons in March 2012. It was the most fabulous experience of my life. Our guide Fernando was so knowledgeable on all our trips out daily. It was a pleasure and an experience to listen to him every day. We had different trips am and pm and each... More

I spent a week with Rainforest Expeditions, going both to Refugio Amazonas and Tambopata Research Center. At Refugio Amazonas, I spent two nights. It was absolutely amazing, and I had a fantastic time. The lodge was beautiful. I traveled on my own and was paired up with one other traveler and our guide Cesar. First, Cesar was a fantastic guide.... More
