Hotel was in a GREAT location ... staff is strange and unwelcoming, there are thugs that guard th elevator. Rooms are bare and not too comfortable. Breakfast was a little strange and not tasty. They asked originally if we wanted a room facing the square or the back of the building, warning that the room that faced the square could... More

This hotel really sucks. Staff is unfriendly and forgets all English when there are issues. If you want to pay with American Express be prepared to fight over it (they don't take it). Rooms are really smelly and small (cigarette smoke + air freshener = very bad), the TV is tiny, bath robes and other comforts that are advertised on... More

Stayed in August 2011 as part of the Transmongolian trip with Russia Experience. The room was ok in size and fairly clean. However there was no hot water either in the evening or the folllowing morning which automatically gets a thumbs down from me I'm afraid - provision of basic facilities should be a given. The staff were quite surly... More

Angara is superbly located -- it faces the main city centre. It is tourist-friendly, has an ATM in the foyer, a popular bar called London Pub. The rooms are small but functional. It's definitely a soviet-style block of a hotel and part of the charm was to stay in one. Free wifi in the foyer as well. More

We paid 3 star rates for a room in Hotel Angara in Irkutsk, East Siberia, via Sokol Tours. We got one that had no air conditioning, dirty gray sheets, dirty floors, a bathroom that was the shower cubicle, a passage way with peeling paper and holes in the wall, no fridge. We were also given a second class dining room... More

We stayed for one night in Hotel Angara during our Trans-Siberian railroad trip from Moscow to Beijing. We went for lake Baikal in the morning and then returned to the hotel after the trip. The hotel was pretty basic hotel from the Soviet times, but everything seemed to be working. Paradise bar downstrairs charged huge amounts of money for just... More

This place is the worst for customer service in all the hotels we stayed at in Russia. When booking our hotels, we asked for mid-range three star hotels. We paid about $120 for a dingy, smelly, dark room, that was accessed by a dark hallway with very worn carpet and smelled like someone's left-over chicken dinner from a month ago.... More

This is an old Soviet time hotel with high prices which do not reflect quality of the service. We had to wait for check-in for almost half an hour and pay twice for one double room (each person separately). Rooms in the 7th floor were supposed to be renovated and modern, but we couldn`t see that. Old fashioned "Russian beds"... More

Clean, safe, location is satisfactory. Rooms are quite small and the beds are like hammocks :). Service from the floor housekeeper was awesome but the front desk staff have had their faces frozen in a permanently dour expression. I thought a bit expensive for what we got and the WiFi is not free nor is it available in the rooms.... More

The hotel is located between the station and the center of the city - but still, there is some distance to the station, so it is better to take a bus, but then it is quite ok. The lobby looks nice, so the rooms (at least on 3rd floor, which is cheapest category) look really ugly: broken furniture, which seems... More
