A much nicer hotel than you would expect from the price. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were kind and efficient. The laundry room was fairly busy, so be prepared to go back a few times if you want to do laundry here.

All in all ok, just a bit pricey for services relative to other hotels in the area, though it is right next to the port and has an onsen/spa inside. The only unpleasant experience was the hotels free shuttle driver, who quite clearly did not like our non-japanese selves. He ignored us, even though we addressed him in Japanese in polite form mind you, and was going to leave without us (but with the Japanese families he called by name) had we not insisted he show us the list that we were on. Rude for our European standards, and extremely rude and disrespectful for Japanese standards. Unfortunately they only had smoking rooms left, and there was the vague old cigarette smell (not fantastically masked but ok considering). The room we got was a little small, as was the bathroom (knees knock the door when sitting). Air conditioning worked perfectly. The Onsen/spa is not free (¥500) unless you pay for a traditional Japanese room. Breakfast was good (and included) and served on the top floor (13th). Staff is friendly, not used to catering to non-japanese though so bring a phrase book or internet. They have a lot of welcoming staff... Seriously! This morning came down and there were 6 people with smiles standing behind two small desks at the entrance.

Conveniently located, though very close to some roads making it noisy at times. Wifi in the room, onsen, gym and laundry facilities all easy to use and 3 restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was big for Japan.

I spent four nights here doing work at the Kawasaki shipyard. The hotel is very clean and efficient, the rooms in good small (this is Japan) but clean and well appointed. The breakfast buffet on the second floor is good, but the sit-down western breakfast on the 13th floor is better. Lunch buffet is good but not outstanding. Dinner of Kobe Beef (15,000 yen) on the 13th floor was excellent. Easy walk to the subway, Visit the Kobe Port Tower and Maritime Museum and Kawasaki World. Take the City Bus loop from the base of the Kobe Tower for a nice hour tour of town. I took the Bay Shuttle from and to Kansai airport and the Portliner from Kobe to the Kobe Airport. A good week at a good hotel.

The Port Tower Kobe is located in a prime position near to Mosaic shopping and Kobe Port. The location is excellent and a convenience store is a couple of minutes walk away. Beyond location there were many disappointments from this very overpriced hotel. Firstly, the bed: horrible. The worst I've ever slept on. The hotel needs to change mattresses asap - I could not get even a half decent night's sleep on this. Second, general cleanliness: not up to scratch. Dirty floors and bathrooms, outdated rooms. The hotel is in need of a major renovation. Finally, noise... our room while it did have a decent view from the window, you can hear vehicle noise all night as well as noise from the corridors. Won't be back, very bad experience.

I didn't have the budget to stay at the nearby Meriken Park Oriental Hotel, so stayed at the Kobe Port Tower Hotel. It's your basic "business hotel", with very small rooms and a tiny bath too. It was fairly clean. The staff were okay. My biggest gripe was that they allow big parties by university students there. A bunch of them got into the elevator with me at the lobby, and got off at one of the lower floors. I was surprised to see dozens of drunk students packed in rooms, making a lot of noise. It was about 10 pm at nigh. Luckily for me, I was on the upper floor so I couldn't hear them. I felt sorry for people on the same floor or floors close to them. It would have been a rough night. I'd recommend the Kobe Port Tower Hotel if you're on a budget, but try to get an upper floor, just in case they have wild parties going on below.

Kobe Port Tower Hotel is an OK hotel about 5 minutes from the harbour and Port Tower and 6-7 minutes from the metro. To get there, take the Kaigan line to Minatomotomachi station, probably the easiest exit is number 2, go diagonally over the crossing. The hotel is 3 or 4 blocks south, towards the port. There is a courtesy shuttle bus once or twice an hour at certain times of the day, so it you have luggage that might be better. We had a room on floor 12 with a partial view of the port, facing between 2 expressways. I'm not a sensitive sleeper so some slight noise was OK, but bear this in mind. The room itself had a semi-double (120cm width) bed which was adequate for 2 and had enough room for moderate luggage, and a small fridge. It was clean and a bit tired but OK. The bathroom smelled of mould on the first day, but was OK after that. The hotel has an onsen (hot spring spa), which is free if you reserved a Japanese-style room or 500 yen if you have a western-style room. Amenities include drinks machines, and they have a bar on floor 13 and a restaurant on 2 or 3. Staff were friendly and there is some useful tourist information in the lobby. Overall, not bad, but perhaps nothing special.

The location is between Motomachi and Harbor Land, and far from either locations. The Port Tower is walking distance, but not adjacent to this hotel. The single room is very small (approx 9 feet x 9 feet). The hotel is surrounded by the highways on both sides. The elevator hall to my room had sweaty uncomfortable smell. However their Japanese style bath house is good. I expect more for hotels costs over US $100. Next time I would stay at one of more convenient and affordable hotels near JR Sannomiya Station.

Stayed here for 6 days. The Hotel is strategically located near the Kobe Port (as the name implies). It is also conveniently located near the Motomachi Shopping Street, Little China Town and the Sannomiya. However, the hotel is already old (even uses the hard metal old keys, not the card type)
