This is my fourth trip to Kyoto and the second time I stayed at the Kyoto Gion Hotel. It is a basic hotel, but as most other reviewers have stated - it is the LOCATION that can't be beat at this hotel. It is really the only hotel located in the heart of the Gion district. There is a bus... More

As others have said the location is indeed good. I recommend you get the 500 yen daily bus pass at the reception desk. There is a laundry round the corner a couple of streets down. If you want to go downtown just keep walking away from the shrine near the hotel on the same street as the hotel and cross... More

Hotel is very conveniently located but could use some freshening up. Our double occupancy room had single beds which felt rather small. We paid extra to get a top floor room with a view but the vie was simply of the street so I don't recommend paying the extra. More

Good location, close to the Geisha area with lots of bars and restaurants. Walking distance to some of the excellent UNESCO World Heritage sites. I had a room on the 3rd floor, at the front overlooking the street. The windows have no double glazing so it was very noisy. Ambulance sirens through the night, plus people shouting, didn't help the... More

best location ever if you want to be in the epicentre of the Geisha district. in 3 nights, i have seen 5 geishas! all unplanned whilst just walking around the neighborhood in the evening. lots of eating places from cheap to expensive within a few blocks. temples, shopping, transport all very convenient. hotel is old-ish and a bit tired. but... Be warned: Japan is incredibly expensive. My partner and I took a weekend trip to Kyoto and wanted a hotel in a central area. We didn't book in advance so a lot of the rooms were sold out. We settled on Gion Hotel, which after taxes came up to about US$300 a night. We have never paid that much for... More

I love this hotel for its great, great location. It is very near to the station & there are many typical Kyoto shops nearby Its restaurant food is all right. They serve both Japanese & Western food in a buffet style. No dish was particularly outstanding. My hubby & I ate a lot of food so that we could save... More

I stayed in Gion Hotel in Kyoto in September 2010 for a short visit. It was suggested by my friend Aoi who lives in Kyoto for its location and she could not be more right! Next to the Maiko district, next to the beautiful Yasaka shrine and to lovely shops with handmade decorative objects and numerous tea houses, it seems... More

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here (3rd time in Kyoto) and I would stay here again. It's all about LOCATION! I think Gion is the best area to stay in and this is the best value hotel I can find. I score it a 5 because of the value for $ and the location. Make sure you... More

This hotel was decent. The rooms are not too big and it’s nothing fancy, but it's a decent business hotel. I stayed here a couple of times because I love how you can walk to Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社-lit up lanterns at night-can go through and walk up to Kiyomizu Temple [清水寺]) and take lovely strolls to Hanamikoji /Kamo River/other very...
