I had been visited this place before on 2010 for 1 night with my international exchange student friends and everything went so good. A guy at the reception was well-communicated in English and really helpful. Economy and friendly accommodation lead to my latest April 2013 Kyoto trip with my family. Everything was like hell this time. I booked this ryokan... More

A great no-frills ryokan near Sanjuusangendoo in Kyoto. Clean rooms. I always stay in the 3 and one half mat room as it is very cozy, but it does not have its own bathroom if that is something that is important. Other larger rooms do. The shower room is clean and functional and in any case there are two lovely... More

As Western visitors we felt that this was more of a backpackers delight than a traditional Ryokan! The place was honestly the coldest lodging I have ever been to. The ryokan lady loomed out of the dim surroundings every time we came near the reception area with a huge coat, hat and face mask. It was freezing, every time we... More

Despite having booked months before hand, we arrived nto be told that there was only 1 very small room available. The room was a disgrace. It was dusty and the linen and towels were stained. For an added bonus, there was hairs on the bedding and on our pillows. Something was biting my legs and I wasn't unable to ascertain... More

The room we had is 3 room tatami, my friend and i 2 person staying in it, the Ryokan staff could not speak English well, the staircase to level 2 is tiny, whose who with huge luggage might find difficulty, but take note of the distance of the Ryokan from Kyoto train station, it is about 20mins walk!! not a... Those who have complained here about the size of the rooms clearly havn't stayed in Ryokans before. Yes, the 3 tatami room is small, but then so are 3 tatami!!! The main drawback was that I came back around 4pm to drop off some shopping, only to find my room key missing from the box at reception. On going upstairs... More

This is one of the cheapest ryokan in Kyoto. Also we look at the distance from central station. We ordered a Japanese-style room well in advance, because we planned a visit to Kyoto during cherry blossom. Unfortunately, upon arrival, it turned out that there is no room, such as ordered. At that time, others also have similar problems. It was... More

Located in a walkable distance from the train station, this is small hotel. It is actually a private house in the Japanese style. This modest hotel was not comfortable nor convenient, and I wasn't happy with the room. In the night was very loud, the walls didn't isolate noises. But the advantage was the location, price and tea for the... More

We stayed at this ryokan for 6 nights and I've got the following to say: Pros - Open and relatively fast wifi connection (no passwords, logins or other crap) - Quite clean - Rooms are adequately air-conditioned - They offer cheap parking but have only limited spots (1000yen/night) - The toilets are not japanese style (i.e. holes in the bloody... OK, I'm not going to say this is the worst hotel or ryokan I've been to or that this place has no redeeming value, but this place had too many problems for me to ignore. I generally tend to be tolerant and not complain, but I really think the management of this place can do better. This was the cheapest... More
