For comparable hotels in Kyoto, the Westin Miyako has a pretty good rate. The room is nothing spectacular, but the surrounding garden adds character to the rather historic hotel. I think many of the comments about the location is somewhat irrelevant, as most places you'd want to visit are spread all over Kyoto anyway. The front desk clerk was curt,... More

I was half-expecting the Westin to be a soulless concrete structure, and half-expecting it to be really tiny. Instead, it was the best of both worlds -- Western and Japanese. The hotel itself is perched at the base of a hill, and has a pretty courtyard and elegant architecture. The rooms are big and modern. I didn't give much thought... More

I found the room to be very outdated, and more representative of a 3-star hotel. To be fair, the room rates were on the low side as well. On the plus side, the concierge staff were very knowledgeable. Location wise, it is a bit out of the way, but they do run a shuttle bus between the hotel and Kyoto... More

We stayed here for four nights in Kyoto as part of a longer trip around Japan, and it was ideal for what we wanted. The staff spoke great English and were able to help us all of our queries and travel plans. The hotel is clean, modern, lovely rooms with a fresh coffee machine, and some great views. As for... More

This is a huge hotel, feels like they can host multiple weddings at once. The location is not very convenient for tourists, you'll need to walk 15-20 minutes to the main sights or take a cab (very expensive in Japan). The rooms are somewhat dated, the furniture has scratches on it, but it's okay. The view from the bird trail... More

We stayed here in May. Our room was a typical beautiful room at the westin. The location is a bit far from the city, but there is a shuttle. Food at the breakfast was the worst of all the places we stayed in Japan. Was really cold and not so tasty. Would probably stay closer to the center of the city... More

We made bookings for a non smoking  room w/ 2 months in advance and were given a smoking room.  Concierge service was rude, guest relations desk was unfriendly and not professional at all. The buffet restaurant for breakfast was too full and the cleanness, food quality, presentation and taste was bad More

I love Westin and I had heard good things about the Miyako hotel Kyoto. It is a legendary hotel that has played to host to world leaders, celebrities and other famous folk. Thus, I may have had higher expectations than I might have for other hotels. Which of course means, an average experience feels even worse. My disappointment began with... More

The hotel might be considered a bit overpriced, but I thought it was worth it. Hotel is perhaps a bit tired, and past its heyday but I found it calm, clean, quiet, comfortable and decent sized rooms. Free wifi in the lobby but you have to pay hefty sum to use internet in your room - I didn't find it... More

This is a budget hotel just like a budget airline. Everything is extra. 500¥ to use the pool for a hour, extra for the gym, 1500¥ for Internet. The room is small. The staff are unhelpful. When I complained they want to charge me a extra 3000¥ per day. All I can say is find another upmarket hotel that does... More
