I am used to being places where everything was at roughly the same level of quality, but this place is schizophrenic. The good: The people work hard and do care. The beds are comfortable, its clean. The breakfast buffet is excellent, location near the Fashion Mall is nice, plenty of security.Bartender in the Lobby Bar provides excellent service, remembers people. The hotel name is Royal Tulip, part of the Golden Tulip corporation, but known to the locals as the InterContinental Hotel. Taxi drivers especially have troubles figuring out where you want to go, but are still much cheaper than the taxi's the hotel has. The rooms desperately need remodeled. TAKE SLIPPERS or something to keep your feet clean. Also watch... More

Royal Tulip should remove the word "Luxury" from this hotel, as its definition of this word is absurd. Upon entering the room, it was quite large and it had a balcony with a nice view of the beach. However, when I went to the washroom, the drain in the sink wasn't working properly, and previous guests hair was resurfacing. Trying... More

I have visited Rio a number of times, and this is my first visit to this hotel. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel, it is a very very good hotel, which for the region, is outstanding. The rooms are fairly large and have ample space to unwind. I found the bed to be very comfortable and the balcony is open.... More

When you arrive at the hotel you see the word "luxury" to designate the property, but the hotel is very far from what you can call luxury. It is just a very expensive and average hotel very well located in front of Sao Conrado beach, a very pleasant location in Rio. Rooms are also just average, anything special, and during... More

This was booked by our cruise company. It was previously the intercontinental and had bad reviews which was very worrying. It is now under new management and is trying very hard although not quite yet there. The bar area is hopeless with a pianist who refused to play anything other than extremeley modern jazz. The rooms were ok about the usual .... This former Intercontinental is certainly not the 5-star as advertised. Although the staffing is on 4 to 4+ level, the building isn't anymore. Tired. Lots of security staff everywhere makes guests feel safe. Staff in bar/restaurant are friendly and efficient, trying to do a good job. The Hotel restaurant provides good full breakfast and interesting Lunch options, the Spanish ENE... More

lovely hotel; very clean and rooms were very nice and quite adequate. Staff spoke english, and were very helpful in suggesting things to do in the city. It is not on the main beaches but it is only a 10 min drive to be right in themiddle of things. Hotels are very pricey in Rio and this was a very... More

This was our pre-cruise hotel for 2 nights, and reading reports in advance had us very concerned. The hotel is not convenient to the downtown but that has a plus side too. We were there at the end of Carnival and the traffic downtown and crowds were utter chaos and so to be able to just walk to the Fashion... More

Mold in the bath tubs. Dirty and old. No management is on duty mid day. No one helps with changing rooms with A/C dripping. Clocks and desks are missing. What happened to the Intercontinental. Looks like it went down hill. SAD.. More
