Last Thursday I was looking for a nice place to have breakfast to celebrate Mothers Day in Rio central area. Unfortunately there are not many places who market appropriately and at the same time has a nice view. So I decided to check the "Hotel Novo Mundo", at the Flamengo Beach. Until 6 months ago, the restaurant was terrible, both... More

The room that I had was a little tired and could have done with some basic upgrading particularly to the air con unit which was only just hanging in. The view from the room however couldn't be beaten overlooking Guanabara Bay, Sugar Loaf, Niteroi and Santos Dumont airport. Whilst not a problem for me some people would find the front... More

This hotel is a taxi ride (or subway) to almost anywhere. You can walk about 10 minutes to a beach, but to get to Ipanema or Copacabana requires transportation. The rooms are nice and the service is good. This is a reasonable place to stay. The hotel restaurant has buffet meals that are pretty good. There is a restaurant a... More

This place wasn't bad, but it just wasn't very comfortable. I stayed in one of the "economica" room, which have not been refurbished and are very bare-bones. The room itself was very clean, with 2 tiny twin beds.Basic, but acceptable, with a lovely view of Sugarloaf. The bathroom, however, needed some help. Cheap, chipped countertops and a rust-spotted mirror, flickering... More

The view from the room is breathtaking. The hotel is old but the reception has been fully renovated. I was on a floor where all rooms have been renovated. Large rooms with wooden floors. Subway station close to the hotel. More

An old hotel, suffering of overwhelming lack of charm, but with a fully refurbished lobby. In the dark and somber hallways and elevators, expect to watch some ghosts. All the rooms looks fully renewed. The standard rooms have no window view at all (terrible), but are relatively silent. The noisy “superior” rooms have view to a corner garden; and the... More

We went here for the price. $200 a night during New Years when everyone else charges for comparable rooms $700 to $1700 a night this week. I was warned it had to be a dump. No way. The room is clean and nice, exactly the photo they show online, and the staff is one of the most friendly ensembles I... More

This is a hotel that goes back to the 40's, when Rio was barazilian capital. It is located right beside Catete Palace and side rooms have a beautiful view of its garden and the sugar loaf. I got a huge, recently redecorated room (that was room 632, in case you are wondering) facing the park and a cutsy 2-chair tea... More

This a 1950s hotel that has been renewed. Not at all a boutique hotel, but certainly clean and for a reasonable fare. Located in a classic and not so obvious part of Rio, has a terrific view to the Sugar Loaf and Guanabara bay. Rigth across the street there is a great park (Museu da Republica), which makes it specially... More
