Staying at Mama Ruisa is less like staying at a hotel and more like staying at a good friends very glamorous house for the weekend. That's thanks to the owner, Jean-Michel, who goes out of his way to make sure that everyone one of his guests has a great time not only in his hotel, but also in Rio. He... More

I arrived very late into Rio with a horrible back spasm and the hotel was supposed to have organized a taxi....when I was unable to locate my ride I found another taxi driver to take me to the hotel and help me with my bags. I arrived safely and was whisked to my first room which was small and quaint... More

Mama Ruisa is a chic hilltop mansion located in the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa. The rooms are spacious and the decor is impeccably curated with special touches everywhere that make it feel personal and welcoming. Jean Michel was extremely accommodating, and his staff were very helpful with recommendations and arrangements in Rio and the surrounding area. Breakfasts are delicious... More

We stayed for 5 days over carnival and found Mama Ruisa to be a perfect place to stay for visiting Rio - staff were all so welcoming and attentive, the house is beautiful and decorated with excellent artistic taste, great views of Guanabara bay (spectacular views of sunrise in the mornings!), Sugar Loaf Mountain and the pool is a tranquil... This place is very special - from the moment we walked in, we felt like we were staying at a relatives home in a very hip little hilltop area of Rio - thank you Dui! The common space itself is very chic and the pool was similar to one you might find in Palm Springs. We tried to book the... More

We stayed three nights in this hotel an throughly enjoyed ourselves. It is very stylish in an old fashioned way. The room was beautiful and the views over Rio from the terrace where we had our breakfast were amazing. The owner went out of his way to take us in his own car to find a taxi when there was... More

We discovered this 'secret' hotel in an inflight magazine. My husband had been to Rio before and had stayed in a number of different hotels in Ipanena and along the beach. When we started to look for somewhere we found the larger chains were expensive and had poor reviews so we booked at Mama Ruisa. We were so glad we... More

Mama Ruiza was the perfect place for our stay : 7 days in Rio for the first time with two children. The team was very helpful and gave us the best advice to discover the city and to see its real gems (not only the obvious Ipanema and other touristy spots...). The House is magnificent, beautifully decorated in a mix... More

What makes Mama Ruisa so charming is Jean Michel and his excellent taste in design of the hotel and his ability to read his guests wants and needs and make the appropriate recommendations for our interests and personality. The hotel is clean and comfortable and tucked away in the chic area of Santa Theresa. Our room was spacious and quiet... More

We spent 4 nights here and I was sorry to leave. It had old fashioned quality and service that made you feel very very special. I loved the place - thought it was perfect in every way. More
