“Room for improvement in restaurant”

Stayed for one night as part of a tour, fulfilled by Aitken Spence, for Mercury holidays. We were given a renovated room on the same level as the restaurant. We had a problem with the safe, which was quickly rectified by hotel staff. One bottle of water provided in the room. Usual toiletries, hair dryer, air con, mosquito coil etc.... More

I have to say that our room on the brand new fourth floor was magnificent. The views out of the windows were awe-inspiring. Perhaps it does make a difference who you travel with. Public rooms are acceptable, and staff, in general, are very pleasing. Food excellent and Executive Chef cooked a special meal for us when he heard of our dissatisfaction. “Old rooms grubby & very shabby but renovated rooms great”

We didn't stay at Hotel Topaz, but came to use the pool as the Lonely Planet recommended it as a friendly place. Not so! We had to trek down to the tourmaline for pool tickets, charging 350 rupees PER HOUR (compared to the Queen's Hotel - 250 rupee for 3 hours). We waited 20 minutes for the manager to issue... More
