First stayed at the red shield guesthouse in 1969 and on numerous occasions since then. Not for the soft traveller as it is very basic but has the advantage of being safe, it is in a great central location and is very affordable. If you are not to picky this is accommodation is more than sufficient.

if you are traveling across India and trying to save money, this is the cheapest place in Mumbai, its got the essentials, including a toilet, shower and drinks. i met a lot of travelers there, it's in a great location for tourists as well.

After reading other peoples experiences I,m very happy we didn't go there. Phone number, on their own homepage is wrong and I asked... More

I visited this pathetic place with few of my friends, despite having read the horrible reviews about this place (my mistake). Other than untidy rooms, dirty toilets and obnoxious staff, this place has little else to offer. I would prefer to spend my night in a railway platform in Mumbai than stay here. I request you all to take these... More

India doesn't always offer fancy and clean accommodation, so after 2 months I am used to a little bit of discomfort. Paying 850 rupees for a double room with private (not attached) bathroom that runs out of water is quit cheap for Mumbai. Also stayed in the big girls dorm (250 per night), about 20 beds. Sheets were dirty, toilet... More

Mumbai is kind of an expensive place when you're travelling. Looking for an affordable place for half a day I was 'glad' the Red Shield Guest House had a single room available, later in the evening. So I took it, without checking very carefully (my mistake). A double room with separate bathroom across the hall. No AC. 850 Roepie. Although... More

I have nothing but good things to say about the Red Shield Guest House. I've stayed there both times I've been to India. Staff in the reception is extremely friendly and helpful. Basic breakfast was included in the price, which is really cheap. I've stayed in the dorm both times and never been bitten by bedbugs. Ok, the toilet in... More

I know nice budget places are hard to come by, but only stay here if you hate yourself. We splurged for a double room, it was horrifically hot (the fan made no difference and it was cooler as soon as you stepped outside), windows wide open, mosquitos everywhere and no running water in the bathroom. We ended up sleeping in... More

Disgusting - bed bugs left me with red sores all over my back, staff were rude, there was a massive rat in the dining area, we weren't given sheets, the room was dirty and poorly ventilated, damp covered the walls. Expensive too.

As good a location as anywhere in Coloba. Price aside, we gave up asking for clean sheets (dirty on arrival) and we payed for our friends bed whilst he was out as they threatened to throw his stuff out of the room - yet he'd already payed. The reception were a lot more evasive when it came to giving the... More
