Recently stayed at the InterContinental Shanghai Jing'An, and it was truly disheartening. Poor Reception Attitude: The hotel's reception needs an overhaul in terms of attitude. Communication lacked politeness and professionalism, leaving a sour taste from the start. Dilapidated Rooms: The rooms were surprisingly old and run-down, falling short of the expected InterContinental standards. A significant letdown that affected the overall experience. Lack of Atmosphere: The absence of an atomizer created a lifeless ambiance, making the place feel like a ghost town. A little attention to detail could go a long way in improving the overall atmosphere. Subpar Customer Service: Terrible customer service prevailed throughout the stay, marked by a lack of attentiveness and a disinterest in guest satisfaction. Ineffective Doormen: Even the doormen failed to contribute positively to the experience. Their lack of usefulness further added to the disappointment. In conclusion, the InterContinental Shanghai Jing'An did not meet the expected standards, and there are undoubtedly superior options in Shanghai. A rather disappointing stay, and I would recommend exploring alternatives for a more satisfying experience.

Check in service is good and Coco Wang helped a lot to arrange the room. The room and facility is quite old and there is no plug / USB besides the bed it’s quite inconvenient. The breakfast is a disaster, too many guests and it is quite messy, filthy, and the food quality is awe full. The staff are not happy and I don’t see any energy but just tired. The management sells the vouchers to attract the neighbors therefore lots is load comes on the weekend. The service quality quite ruins Intercontinental brand. One stay is enough and won’t consider to stay again.

My rooms was like luxury apartment: furniture modern and new, a lot of huge cupboards . The bathroom was enormous I think 12m2 with two sinks, bath tub, shower. In the room also a Nespresso coffee machine!! So cool. Wi-Fi signal stable everywhere. Gym well maintained, cleaned, ordered and machines quite modern. Breakfast buffet good, wide chose for sweet and salty food. Lobby too dark, windows and natural light missing.

Checked in for a four night business stay and immediately noticed how hot and stuffy the cavernous lobby area is. Check-in process seemed to take forever and had a disorganised feel to it as if there was no proper oversight or management. The hallways are dingy and when I got to my room I was appalled at the damp smell and atmosphere. The aircon, phone, bedside lamp and bathroom tap didn’t work properly. I requested a room change and the surly receptionist assigned me a new one without once looking at me. New room was considerably better (had functioning taps for example) but still had a distinct damp smell. Staff in the bar area were extremely slow and couldn’t make simple drinks that were listed on their menu. Breakfast buffet was messy and again felt uncomfortably hot due to its first floor location. Housekeeping staff did a good job to be fair and the laundry I put in was returned quickly in good order. Clearly I wouldn’t advise staying here. Intercontinental need to sort their act out as this place is as bad an advert as they could have.

What has happen to my favourite hotel in Shanghai ? I’ve stayed at this hotel many times over the past 15 years. The service, rooms and business lounge were exceptional. Now it’s a poor relation to the rest of the Intercontinental group. Waited an age to check in as only one member of staff in the desk. My welcome drink was offer in a paper cup as I wanted to take it to my room. The club lounge isn’t open from breakfast. In the evening the lounge staff don’t speak English and it took me 15 minutes to get some red wine as they couldn’t open the bottle! The food was almost none existent. Rooms were tied and needed attention. On the positive side, breakfast was good in the main restaurant. Sorry but next time I’m in town, I will visit a sister hotel

Terrible customer service. I am an ambassador member and supposed to have a guarantee room upgrade and $20 dining credit. There was no mention at check in as apparently the front staff training is inadequate. They didn’t even reconfirm the room type I have booked and where breakfast would be served. In the club lounge, I was asking the lady there to help book a dinner. She didn’t call the restaurant but only used the app to search. It ended up that I called the restaurant to book myself despite my not-so-good Shanghainese. The following day when I had breakfast, since the lounge is not opened in the morning, they asked me to do breakfast in the cafe and it is fine. However, the cafe staff wanted to charge for the breakfast which clearly showed the inadequate communication. All in all, ok hardware, bad location and poor services, which certainly made my family holiday memorable

Not anywhere close to an intercontinental hotel experience, more a fawlty towers experience! Check-in / check out takes ~15 minutes, as only 2 people on the reception desk. (This was the same on multiple visits now). It is not unreasonable for a 5 star hotel to staff reception properly However my main gripe, is the room was smelling of cigarette smoke, and a general musty smell. This was bad enough but then the terrible customer service then comes in... Asked on going into the room ~9pm, for the room to be cleaned, or for me to be moved. This did not happen Went out came back at midnight, called reception on was the room going to be cleaned or I moved? Couldn't answer and Duty manager would call me back in a few minutes. One hour later... at 1am - still no cleaning. Complained. Duty manager said hotel manager would talk to me in the morning, and offered to comp room. In the morning no contact from manager, on checkout again complained, and asked for manager. Not possible to talk to him. And was charged fully for the room An absolute shambles of customer service. 4 different times had the conversation and was just ignored / pushed onto the next person

Hotel reception altitude is a huge problem. They need to learn how to communicate politely and in professional manner. Encounter 2 different receptionists with the same kind of attitude on the same day that I check-into the hotel. Presented brushes and tooth paste during check-in. My first experience check-in at a 5 stars hotel. When I decided to stay only 1 nite instead, due to my unpleasant experience with this hotel, I called the reception and again had a pleasant communication experience. However, this gentleman apologized during our heated conversation explaining that he was thinking I’m just like other clients… Besides, altitude issue, I called room service line for almost an hour before anyone attended to me. Lastly, this hotel is definitely not a hotel for business but lovers. The table setup is not suitable for working. A hotel I don’t recommend for international visitors.

After arrival in the rooms, the air quality was bad and the air conditioning was not working properly. Tried to call reception, but have not been successful. Went to the reception and complained about bad air quality in the rooms. Just got reply turn off air conditioner. Then the air quality was worse. 2nd day: Complained again over phone. Busy line. Went to reception and got promise that air cleaner would be delivered to the room. We went out to appointments. After returning to the hotel. Checked with front desk, whether air cleaner were delivered to the rooms. They couldn’t see it in the system. Went to the room - no air cleaner. Had to complain again and finally the cleaning lady brought the air cleaner. Fix of central air con system - no information or promise at all.

Nothing really exceeded my expectations and so many small things can be improved here. A few examples: 1. When I arrived the doorman was sitting inside and doing nothing. Didn’t even come up and help me with the luggage. Just pointed me to go to the check in desk myself. 2. Bathroom toilet has mechanic issue and when I told the staff about it their first response was that I don’t know how to use it. 3. Breakfast was served at the restaurant on 1st floor and it’s basically freezing every morning.
