Gakona Lodge is a little slice of Alaska, an original historic roadhouse. Easy access on the Highway 1. A quiet, rustic, lodge, and rooms are exceptionally clean and fresh. Delicious food, great cook - best continental breakfast ever - fresh homemade muffins and gourmet instant oatmeal. Oh, and try their cheesecake - best we've ever eaten. Can she cook! Greg... More

We stayed for one night at the Gakona lodge, after hiking in Wrangell-St. Elias national park. The rooms in the historic building were cozy and clean, and the downstairs common sitting area was also nice and useful. The red salmon in the restaurant was great, thanks to Valery, the owner and chef. After dinner we headed to the adjacent tavern,... More

Owners were very friendly. We stayed at an historic log house dating from 1905. Felt like little house in the prairie... We got a room overlooking the Gakona river, with private bath. Located near awesome Wrangell NP. No restaurants, no shops. Just nature... Breakfast = delicious mufins and coffee. Thank you Valory! More

The cabin, bar, and restaurant separated building have its own charactor. It gives us the expereince of real Alaskan frontier with 5 senes of place surround us: peacful sound from the old wood and the river behind, smell of the cabin (not like bad old stale), charming log built, clean/nice to touch and good food (asking Valori for Alaskan cream... We went to Alaska with very little planning and were traveling between Anchorage and Fairbanks when we discovered this lodge. I found it to be one of the coolest old places that we found in Alaska. They, by chance, had a room available for us. Greg took us fishing for Reds on the Gulkana and we had an exceptional day... More

Nice spot in a area not highly traveled. Close to Copper River. It is an old road (real) house with a small restaurant and good food, small bar where all the local characters hang out after 5PM, worth sitting in and listening to tales. Rooms are small and clean. Communal bathrooms. Be sure to bring along body soap and shampoo... More

Traveled with Spouse and friends - stayed in 3 bedroom cabin that was quiet and cozy! They have a nice restaurant on site with great burgers and fresh Salmon. There is a separate bar that is fun to hang out in and meet people. More

I called the lodge the day before I was due because I knew I would arrive after 10 pm and I wanted to be sure that I could get in, Gakona being in the middle of no where and all. Valori answered and said that it would be no problem at all and what did I want to eat?? Well... More

Gakona Lodge is a total contrast to the modern B&B's which we stayed in elsewhere in Alaska. It looked interesting on the internet and we knew in advance that it was an older property with rustic accommodation, so no surprises. The hosts and the family were very welcoming and chatty. Our room was small and furniture was rustic with a... More
