It was such a pleasure to stay at Saffron Guest House. The manager Emely and her assistant Problet were always accomodatiing. Anything my friends and I needed we got. We are vegan. Thye arranged for breakfast for us a Cafe de la cream half a block away. They made sure we had special vegan breakfasts. Emely made sure we had... More

I was in Joburg on business and just got tired of hotels, and got referred to this little gem in the heart of old Melville. Close to Auckland Park and the University of Joburg it was ideally situated for me. Check in was friendly and I got to my VERY special and well appointed room in no time. The room... More

Lovely decorated studio style apartment. We were recommended to stay in Melville for the food & beverage scene, but while I'd imagine it would be a very livable suburb, I was expecting something more. The area is not very convenient for a tourist wanting to visit the usual tourist attractions. We arranged for a guide to show us through Soweto.... More

Has a good location and very kind housekeeping staff, but I would not stay here again. Melville has many guest houses and we have stayed in three others that we liked much better. As this was a business trip we made it very clear that we would need working internet and were repeatedly assured this was not going to be... More

The Saffron Guest house is cute & spacious, a reasonable option for staying in a safe part of Johannesburg. We stayed in room #1 - it was pleasant, with a small, separate lounge room to the main bedroom, but not as charming as the website photos suggested. The room was very quiet; note though that the outside courtyard fronts the... More

We stayed at Saffron House for just a night in August 2006. I think it only has 5 rooms and because it's so small the service is really friendly. Noelene came to pick us up from the airport (costs extra) gave us a running commentary and manged to book us on a Soweto tour on the 45 minute journey. The... More
