We arrived in Africa from the UK and our hotel in Midrand, Constantia Park, had given our rooms to a group which offered them more money (believe me, this does happen in South Africa) and the receptionist then gave us the number for Birds Eye Lodge. It was fantastic. The lady running the venue even offered to arrange our wedding (again, a last minute booking with the venue we had booked to hold our wedding had been cancelled as somebody else had paid more money and paid a bung to the owner). Birds Eye Lodge was the best place to have our wedding. All the staff were so helpful and kind. Stengie saved the day. We have since sent friends and relatives to Birds Eye and they all sing its praises. I have booked a room for my own mum to convalesce after a stroke at Birds Eye Lodge as I felt the surroundings and the staff would be more helpful than a hospital. I cannot recommend this venue enough. The surroundings, the owner so very helpful and nothing is too much for her to arrange or do, the staff friendly and caring, the cost exceptional. I would never ever stay anywhere else if I were to visit South Africa again.

This "'establishment"' will go down in history for me as the absolute worse EVER!! Not only is it managed by the most clueless unprofessional staff, the advertisement on their website are mostly lies. Not only is it completely rundown and tired, but there are also no option for twin beds available, a little detail they forgot to mention at the time of our booking for 5 of my staff. We really were not interested in sharing beds!! PLUS we discovered AFTER check in (and 50% advance deposit payment) that not all the rooms are en-suit! Imagine my surprise as there was NO mention of this on the website. We made our booking 3 months in advance because of the pressure on decent accomodation in MIdrand around this time of year so when we were told that they could not accomodate all of us in their fascility (again AFTER check in and payment) I totally lost it. We found wonderful alternative just up the road and will now go out of my way to warn people of this horrible place. I am also going to write to our local tourism board to complain because this place has a 3 star grading from them!! It is NOT even 1 star.
