I stayed for 2 nights and another night on my way to Uruguay and am going back in 2 days for 1 night on my way back home .The accommodationist excellent a kitchen, large room big bed balcony and nice bathroom. Its very well located in San Telmo and a 20 minute walk into the city. The owner and staff are excellent and honest,I paid in us$ and gave $50 too much but he noticed and gave it back to me.Its great value and I would not stay anywhere else in Buenos aires and highly recommend.

Great value for Buenos Aires. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice little place overall. I had a private room with air conditioning, and there was a nice balcony on the top floor. Plenty of bathroom facilities.

I travelled with my girlfriend last April of this 2012, we stayed for 3 days, made the reservation 5 days ago and when we arrived, there was our room waiting for us like they confirmed, we asked for the doble room with shared bathroom, and we were a little scared because of so many bad comments of hostals but we really made a good choice with el Candil... The recepcionist was really useful, our room was clean, had air conditioner and very secure with our own key of course, the bathroom were clean too, no problems with hot water and didnt even feel like it was shared bathroom... The location was good, 20 mts from the Av. Scalibrini Ortiz, near Av. Cordoba and Av. Santa fe, which is a nice zone of pubs, bars, restos (Dont forget that BsAs at night you have to be aware, but the location was good)... Good price. Great Internet wifi :) The breakfast was served until 10 am : Cereals, milk, juices, home made bread really jummy, mermelade, butter, tea... the dining room was cozy, the living room had tv In the 2nd floor, there was a balcony with a barbecue, a great place for smoking before going to bed... Our next door room were too loud very late but the staff fixed it :) We recomend this place, it was clean, cozy, very useful staff, good vibes, good location, afordable price, I really made an intense search for hostals and chose the best one indeed.

The staff were wonderful here, but unfortunately the hostel is lacking in love but in a good location for night life but it lacks character. The whole place needs a good tidy and clean, it's a bit like staying in a student house... there's an old cooker just left out in the patio area, people smoke in the communal areas so wherever you are you can't escape it the sofas and seats are falling apart. But it's still a 'comfortable'. The mattress was too thin and the room was a bit dark, very big though.
