Well located for walking around the pseudo craters at the Southern part of Lake Myvatn. A little bit wet and awkward to make the walk because there was still snow around in parts. Great bird life to see. Hotel staff were friendly and the room was comfortable enough, though nothing fancy and not especially stylish. Breakfast decent - their bread... More

Simply decorated rooms in this roadside "motel" ideally situated for our circumnavigation of the island. Two nights here to have a day off driving. Good walks around the lake; NB MYVATN is Icelandic for midge, and they make the Scots version look small and tame! Breakfasts were OK, supper was also, but rather too much Formica and hard plastic visible.... More

And it has an in-house restaurant, too, which is not an everyday thing. We came for the Northern Lights, the pseudocraters, the ogres and the elves, and were rewarded on all counts. It's close to everything in the area, the views from all the rooms are stunning (ogres and light-drenched plains to the south, craters and water (and the road)... More

We stayed as part of a Route 1 stop off. The hotel is on 3 floors, with a lot of the rooms being on the top floor, i.e. in the roof, as was ours. You'd expect that an eaves room would be cold, but if anything much the opposite. The heat hit you as you opened the door. We opened... More

We (my husband and me) stayed at the Sel Hotel twice last year. In Feb 2012 and also in Dec 2012. We can recommend the Sel to anyone staying in the North East of Iceland and would have no hesitation in going back, infact we hope to one day. The owners and staff are very welcoming and the rooms are... More

We had a very nice stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything, the food was quite good and I didn't have a single night of bad sleep. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Myvatn. The extremely friendly owner also happens to be on the local rescue team, quite handy if you've... More

Stayed here as part of a package and really enjoyed our stay. The bedrooms were not the smartest we've stayed in but were clean and had all the facilities: kettle, good hairdrier, TV, free wi-fi, alarm clock, bedside lamps etc. The bathroom was adequate - although the wash basin was very small - I had to rinse out our fleeces... We stayed here for two nights in a spacious room with lake view and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Dinner (especially the lamb) was delicious. The hotel offers all kinds of activities - we tried snow-mobiling (great!). We were also lucky to see the Northern Lights while standing close to the hotel, very convenient. Worth visiting are the Nature Baths nearby.

We came to see the aurora borealis and were not disappointed. It was spectacular on our first night. I was surprised though that the hotel didn't dim its lights for us. Our room was small. We had twin beds made up as a double which was surprisingly comfortable. It was extremely quiet at night and, of course dark. Sunrise was... More

Lovely friendly hotel, located in stunning scenery. The owners, along with staff, were very friendly and helpful. Food was good. Food and drink not as expensive as anticipated. A main course, based on the exchange rate I had was about £15 to £18, and a pint of beer about £4.40. We were fortunate to have clear skies on all three... More
