Room was small but OK. Wifi worked well. Bathroom basic but water hot enough. The layout is very odd as it spans the top floor of several buildings, resulting in odd staircases, little lounge rooms which sport microwaves, and landings with odd old furniture. So quirky. It is well located, 5 minutes walk up and down the steep streets to many attractions of what is a beautiful and interesting town. The only downside was smoking within the hotel which disturbed my sleep as ir went on all night. If you like something a little different, a little rundown and a lot quirky, this is the place for you. And the rates were great

This hotel experience was a bit of a mixed bag. On my arrival I received a warm greeting at the management desk, which is in a sort of "cabin" in the lobby. The lobby is well-air-conditioned. (I didn't test out the air-conditioning in my room because it was already sort of cool during September.) The management provided me with a city map, pointed out the best places to see in the city, and helpfully suggested a nearby supermarket. The room was so-so. It was clean, but the furniture was quite old, and not in a nice antique way. The door to the room did not reach all the way to the floor so noise from the hallway was sometimes a bit much. My room had a window opening into an inner courtyard, so there was no street noise. Some parts of the window, however, didn't work correctly. The bathroom was very basic. The toilet tank was mounted high up on the wall and flushing it was accomplished by pulling a thin metal chain. The hairdryer didn't work, which caused issues which I will describe shortly. On the plus side, there was a safe in the closet for storing valuables. I only noticed the hairdryer didn't work in the morning as I was getting ready. I went to the reception to ask about this, but the only person occupying the cabin was an very elderly woman whose spanish I could barely understand. With the help of another man standing around outside the reception I gathered after much effort that there was nothing to be done. In the end on returning the evening the same gentleman was there as when I arrived. He offered to leave the room adjacent to mine open in the next morning so I could use the hairdryer in there, which I appreciated. All in all, if you come across the right person in the management and your spanish is good, the hotel might be passable, especially for the money. But don't expect much.

We stayed here in September and we were pleasantly surprised on how lovely the rooms were with the great value, even though it was a hostel we still had separate private rooms, very good location close to pubs, restaurants and the old ruins of antequera, the staff were really friendly, and the little elderly lady who works at the reception was very nice, she didn’t speak much English but the guy who also works there spoke very good English, we will definitely be staying here again when we visit again.

Stayed there 2 nights. Friendly staffs. Amazing to see old lady works as receptionist! Ashtray was not emptied. 2nd night moves to a better room but shower wasn’t hot enough and smell of cigarette and ashtrays are in the room as it has sign for non smoking room. Found hair in bed linen. Cheap place and not so clean.

If you want a central no frills cheap overnight stay, then Hostal Colon would be an ideal choice. We had a large room with TV,small fridge, and air-con and a large spotlessly clean shower room. For 30 euros plus another 7 for garage parking there was nothing to grumble about! In spite of the room overlooking the Main Street it was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night! There was even a lift,a very welcome sight in the entrance hall and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly in our room!

We wanted an hotel for one night as we were meeting friends from U.K. for an evening meal, before they flew back and breakfast was not an issue as we were only 45 minutes from our residence. This hotel appeared to fit the requirements and the cost of 35€ was very attractive. We did enquire about parking and for a further 7€ we were able to park in a locked garage. The room and ensuite bathroom were excellent, large well furnished clean, comfortable and even being on a main town centre road was quiet. The town centre location suited us as we were able to walk to our meeting and restaurant making it an evening devoid of small problems where we were able to enjoy a good meal in good company.

Convenient location with nearby garage parking at extra cost. On arrival we were given a rather dingy room at the back of the hotel. This room, especially the bathroom, was dirty and had not been properly serviced eg no toiletries. After speaking to hotel staff we were given a room at the front of the hotel which was cleaner. Overall, this hotel leaves a lot to be desired in terms of its quality of service and professional management.

Really friendly hostal. We stayed a month and they helped us out loads with all sorts. They even offered to help us find an apartment to rent, let alone all the directions, help with our Spanish, parking tips, and whatever we needed for the room over 4 weeks, from a complete clean to complete privacy. Our room had the big balcony over the front door and it was lovely :-) Fridge in the room is a real bonus for drinks and breakfasts, bed was amazingly comfy. The location is great, with a view over the beautiful main street and everything you need nearby. Antequera's a nice place, lots to do and friendly, with awesome nature nearby. It's also central for exploring the rest of Andalucía. The only reason for not getting 5/5 was because the wifi didn't work in our room. Our favourite restaurants near the hostel are San Agustín 7,off c/ Don Infante Fernando, for quality wholesome food and El Galeón, at the other end of c/ Don Infante Fernando, for cheap and generous tapas. Our final favourite, especially for a special occasion, was El Escribano up near the entrance to the fortress - you can eat tapas out on the quiet terrace in front of the church with beautiful views.

We spent four days at Hostal Colon that it happened to be during the local Feria. The rapport price/quality was excellent. The hotel is clean and located in the city center, on the main street of downtown area, close to everything. The room was large, equipped with everything you need (including fridge, hairdryer, TV, internet). We even had a small terrace in addition to the balcony as our room was on the top floor. The furniture is old, but fits well with the style of the building and area. The staff was very friendly and I want to especially mention Maria Teresa from reception desk. She has a good command of English, is funny, helpful, always smiling, and knowledgeable about the tourist attractions of the area. We strongly recommend it.

The Hospederia Colon is on a busy main street in Antequera. All the attractions of this fine historical town are easily accessible from its central location. My wife, and I stayed four nights in a large double room with a tiny balcony. In early June it cost €30 per night for a double! The en-suite room was very comfortable and spacious, the bed was good and bathroom facilities were modern and kept to high standard. The daily cleaning and hard floor washing was almost obsessive. I cannot fault the Colon on any point of housekeeping. The staff were most helpful and generous with their interest and kindness. Terese has very good English and she took care of most of our inquiries. All of the staff, including those with limited English, were very helpful at all times. Breakfast is not available here, however, there are many cafes in the vicinity. I have been in three star hotels that do not match the standards set by Hospederia Colon. Do not be put off by references to 'hostal' or 'pension' - these titles are misleading. This is a fine budget hotel - it operates like a hotel, it simply, does not have a lounge,or restaurant. We slept well here, apart from street noise on the Saturday night. If this concerns you, you may wish to inquire about a quieter room overlooking the tiny internal patio. Overall, then, terrific value-for-money. The building has character and charm. The long street leads , at one end, to the old quarter and the Alcazaba. Following the opposite direction from the Colon, you find the centre of town. Along the way you'll pass several impressive buildings. The most impressive are the 'council' buildings - the Ayuntamiento - do try to enter this impressive place.
