This is not for "trendy" people looking for the latest interior design (at a price!) but for those seeking the grandeur of a fine building, excellent service and comfort in a hotel with high recommendations from the guide books and we had an excellent offer when booking in February. The decor is in keeping with the style and all public... More

I've stayed at Kirroughtree at least half a dozen times over the past 10 years or so for a weekend break and think it is a gem. Do not come here for a lively time, for a resort-like experience with lots of facilities, or for the latest rooms with flat screen TVs and iPod docks. Kirroughtree is either a) timeless... More

Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable star-gazing weekend. The hotel is beautiful and the staff were friendly and only too happy to go that extra mile to make our weekend special. Great food, well organised event and helpful staff and manager. The little touches made our stay very memorable.

A beautiful setting, as befits the lovely building and sweeping lawns is one's first impression. Second impression: one cannot fail to be impressed by such friendly, hospitable and outstanding service. The staff are charming, gracious and more helpful and friendly than they need be, echoing the warm, cosy wood panelled, baronial interiors, which are grand but never imposing. We stayed... More

The management and staff here were exceptional. The food excellent. The surroundings of the hotel are parkland planted with many lovely big trees, outstanding scenically. Seeing us arrive in rain, one of the staff came out to shelter us under a brolly and help with luggage. The lounge and dining room were very nice. The surrounding countryside is spectacularly beautiful.... More

My wife and I have come to know and like this hotel. We were attracted by their advert which offered a star gazing weekend to coincide with our wedding anniversary. Irresistible! The hotel was as comfortable as ever with the usual high quality cooking. The star gazing was provided by Steve Owens, a freelance science communicator and astronomer, who took... More

No one could accuse the Kirroughtree of being cutting edge but that is its charm. We stayed recently for 2 nights in Room 11 and while I never noticed a stain on the carpet, I would echo the earlier reviewer's point about the slightly past-it dried flowers. This however was the only negative in an excellent couple of days. When... More

We stayed here while visiting the Wigtown Book Festival and it was an ideal choice. The bedroom was huge and very well furnished. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming and the staff couldn't have done more to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Food was excellent both at breakfast and dinner. And the icing on the cake is that they are... More

Just spent two wonderful days here in Newton Stewart staying here at Kirroughtree. It was luxury in a lovely gentle atmosphere. The breakfasts were good but evening dinner was even better, good food deliciously cooked. Very comfortable twin beds, good room with a great view. There was a small decanter of sherry and three pieces of fruit awaiting our arrival,... More
