I can't say anything about the rooms or experince in staying at this hotel since I live in Pontianak. I've tried The Roof, the one on the 4th floor. It's actually quite nice except for a few things, people smokes in there and it's loud since they have a "DJ" inside. A bit hard to chat really, so if you are planning to sit down, have a smoke or two and play with your phone with your friends, this is the place. Service wise, it can be improved, the servers are all way over there at the other area, so it was kinda hard for us to get their attention. Now let's move to the roof at the top of the building, not sure what it's called. There's a minimum charge per person to sit down, so try to order accordingly. It's a pretty nice view from up there, you can see the hustle and bustle of the city. I love the atmosphere up there, bring out your friends and try it. I can't guarantee about the foods since it's not their greatest virtue. Fix it up.

we stayed at this hotel called Gajahmada Avara Boutique hotel, and within hours, we already complained a lot! here's the list : 1. the window's curtain are too thin. waaaaaaaaaaaaay too thin. even in the night, the surrounding lights still illuminated our room. and i was wake up at 5 when the sunrises. (which is not good for a sleepy-head like me) 2. the floor pretty dirty. seems like they never mopped the floor for years. you'll never be able to walk bare foot without get your feet dirty. 3. the shower's water is so slow. 4. all the available TV Channel are not clear. not a single channel is watchable. 5. the hallway is too noisy. so many people walk in and out since our room is next to the rooftop resto. seems like the room is not sound-proof enough 6. the pillow is too hard 7. the elevator is just about 2x2m and it's pretty hot like an oven! you'll sweat once you get in. 8. the room service will shout out loud instead of knock our door, or using the door bell. 9. parking lot is pretty small. 10. the breakfast needed to improve. come on, that's not a 3 star hotel's breakfast class. 11. lastly, the price i think is a little bit overpriced. but the pro is, the hotel located near to a supermarket, food stalls (more food stall and resto in jalan Setia Budi), and pretty close to everywhere.

Lies in one of the bustling road of Pontianak, the Gajahmada Avara is neighbour hotel of Gajahmada. This boutique hotel is advance in concept. The property is undergone an extensive renovation. I like to stay in this Gajahmada Avara Boutique hotel, since the hotel is on soft opening. The keylock itself is an advance, you should use it not only when entering your room, but also the lift. This is quite safe means not everybody can come and visit you anytime. This property is in good neighbour, with foodstalls around at night. Also giftshop are near, even doctor and dispensary around you. Chinese mostly lives here, so no wonder you can easily found pork food. The room rate is quite fair, and the service is good. I also like the resto for breakfast, it is on the 5th floor, and an open air. You can have breakfast while watching around the city. The room itself is quite wide and filled with small fridge, tv set, cofee maker. I took a standard room, so the bathroom only use a shower, but thats more than enough. The breakfast food is so and so, but the room service food is quite tasty. Overall I recommend this hotel for short stay.

This is one of those modern hotels with large rooms and all facilities. No problem with that. It’s very centrally located and in the street with all the restaurants and the local Kwe Tae Sapi speciality (right across). The hotel's restaurant has a good offer and correctly priced. If you want to stroll around or do a last-minute buy, this is the right place. Handicap: no hot water and not repaired after a day, but then it is hot on the equator, so no real problem (do ask for a discount if it fails again. They’re most understanding). Only English at the front-desk. Very helpful.

We needed some comfort after driving around West Kalimantan for two weeks. So for our last day in Pontianak we a Superior room at Hotel Gajah Mada for Rp 474,400 (promo rate). we found the hotel is all one can wish for in a city like Pontianak. The room was well equipped and clean, the service friendly, the buffet breakfast complete. Only minus point some noise from chairs being moved in adjacet rooms. The hotel is centrally located in Gajah Mada street, where one can find several other hotels, including adjacent Hotel 2000 and Hotel Le Peony, which have the same owner as Hotel Gajah Mada.

Room is very standard, clean enough, breakfast has some varieties. Been coming back to this hotel 3 times because of its strategic city center location, very easy to find local foods n snacks within walking distance.

Been coming back and forth to this hotel since it first opened years ago. Can see the hotel amenities are getting old although there are some major renovations on going to upgrade. Some of the rooms has weird smells, I think it is from the carpets. I recently stayed in one of the suites room, was feeling reluctant to hang my clothes inside the wardrobe, it has smells as if it was never been used for a very long time. The inside room facilities are great though, water heater, complimentary 2 water bottles, room sandals, VCD, International channels. The TV channels has lots of issues with connection. Sometimes I can barely see any pictures at all or the other way around. The restaurant servers will require extra training. Although not everyone, some will need extra push, some will also need to learn to show appreciation to guess when they give away a decent tips over services given even though it wasn't a pleasant one. With me have experienced this situation myself recently, I felt deeply disappointed with one the server girls in short hair (can't remember her name but her face) was not even giving a smile or said thanks when I told her she can keep the (decent amount) change. The second night, I was sitting at one of sofas at the lobby right in front of the restaurant counter, as a server, she could have come and offered me as a hotel guess, a drink or the different choices from the restaurant's menu. Instead of doing that, she was just sitting and looking at what I did with a weary face. This was not pleasant at all. I, Instead of asking her to come to bring the menu, would rather just continue working of my computer. Batter then seeing her face taking my orders with that unpleasant reluctant working attitude. But to my surprise, the security guys are working beyond my expectations. They are going extra miles to attend to us. They greet and smile, and showing respect. Make sure you ask the hotel staff for the non smoking room if you don't smoke. This hotel allowed people to smoke inside the room, the cigarettes smells can gets stronger at nigh and you wont be able to sleep. Second floor is not really a good choice, especially if you plan to stay for more than two days. Besides the cigarettes smells, noise from the people outside are extremely loud as well which make it worst. Some of the room air - conditioners are not even working properly. There was this one day when a piece of a long sharp line of frozen ice dropped almost on top of my head from the air - conditioner which wall mounted on top of the entrance room door, was old, smells and was having loud noise.
