First time at a hostel and I was pleasantly surprised. With 2 adults and 3 large teenagers we still found the 'Point Lobos' family room adequate. The place was clean and felt secure. Staff were very nice. Location was fantastic. It was great having the kitchen to prepare meals/pack lunches.

I was travelling down the Hwy 1 and this place came recommended due to the friendly atmosphere and great mattresses (!). it did not disappoint. This is a fabulous hostel. Great common area and kitchen. Dorm rooms good. Spotless bathrooms. would happily return. Great location. Walk to shops and restaurants. Can walk to aquarium. This is one of my favorite hostels.

Nice place, but not a lot going on. clean, friendly, lots of info, big communal area, good showers. The internet situation with ALL HI hostels is just ridiculous - ancient slow computers that you have to pay through the nose for. They really need to be proactive and sort that out.

This was good value for Monterey, helpful friendly staff, pancakes & fruit for breakfast was delicious, clean, big open plan lounge area with lots of info, & within walking distance of Cannery Row. Only downsides were it is closed for a while during the day when they clean it, & the bedrooms are almost underground so very dark.
