Detailed Reviews
I was thoroughly impressed with this hotel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The pillows are fantastic. The bed and linens are so comfortable I didn’t wake up once overnight, which is rare for me. The shower water pressure and temperature is perfect, and they supply Body Shoppe cleansing products. The location couldn’t be better for a walk to old Sac or the capitol, museums, etc.
The only reason it’s not five stars is you have to have or make a room reservation before entering the lobby (I assume this is only a thing during Covid nonsense) and pay $20 extra for a mandatory parking lot that is not private for the hotel. I also detected a slight smoky smell even though the rooms are non smoking.
Overall great experience and I would stay again and recommend.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on business with my colleagues. I am giving them a “very good” review notwithstanding the very, very dated appearance of the property (which initially is very alarming and very disappointing) for the following reasons: (1) the cost is very reasonable; (2) this appears to be a very well managed hotel. It is clean, the staff without exception is polite and always willing to help you; and (3) surprisingly, they have an impressive kitchen. We ordered dinner one night at their little bar and brought it up to the meeting room where we were working on the 15th floor. We each were amazed how excellent the dinner was. So, in sum, I think they have good people working in a very tired looking hotel who are doing their best to keep the property clean, while responding to the needs of their guests.

I stayed here one night before catching a train the following morning. It was a good location, close to downtown so I was able to walk to meet a friend for dinner. It’s also very close to the Amtrak station and the arena.
Pros:
Good location
Reasonable price compared to other options
Clean, though a used K-cup was left in my room’s Keurig machine.
Room had a refrigerator
Really friendly staff
Cons:
Older property with low popcorn-type ceilings, outdated color schemes and old, noisy elevators
I wanted to check out the pool since I got in earlier than I had planned but, after I finally found it, it was closed with an out of order sign on the door so that was disappointing. It’s irritating when properties continue to advertise amenities that they don’t really offer.
The entrance and drop off area are very confusing (especially with construction going on) and I found myself entering a paid parking garage (which is the hotel garage) but I wanted to unload before parking. I noticed a lot of people coming into the entry area against the one-way arrows on the pavement.
The hotel entrance facing the garage was out of order (?) so it meant a little bit of an extra walk to use the main entrance.
All in all, this is an average place and I’d consider staying here again (especially if the pool was open). Many Holiday Inns are pretty old and outdated now (one near me was recently imploded to make room for redevelopment and another one nearby is looking at the same fate).

Hotel's Favourite
This is a great property with wonderful staff. Everyone we encountered went out of their way to be helpful. The room was immaculate and very comfortable. Even though you are close to the freeway, the room is very quiet. The location is perfect if you are attending an event at the Golden One Center. It is an easy five minute walk through a shopping area. You are also within walking distance to many restaurants. Also, we felt very safe walking to restaurants, shopping and Golden One.

The only reason I gave this hotel 2 stars is the nice and courteous staff. That's about the only good thing about this hotel.
The room decor, from the wallpaper and carpeting to grandmas rolling chair in the corner of the room, is hideous. TV's are tiny. This hotel actually prints breakfast vouchers. Literally a 4x11 1/2 paper breakfast voucher. We put men on the moon decades ago but in Sacramento they can't keep track of who has complimentary breakfast without handing them a physical voucher. The heating and cooling are courtesy of musty old PTAC units complete with obnoxious clicking sounds. Water marks on the headboards are a nice touch. The rooms have no complimentary or for purchase water at all; no refrigerators either.
Bathroom had a slow drain in the shower and water backed up considerably; absolutely disgusting.

Hi TyLocke, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for posting a candid review. I was very concerned to read your comments about the room decor, carpeting, and bathroom just to name a few. I understand your dismay and I am sorry. This is not the joy of travel that we wanted for all our guests and I will make sure to share your comments with our team for necessary improvements needed on our end. Thanks again and I still hope you would give us another chance in the future. Mike F. Case Manager IHGService

I have to compliment the all the staff here, they are top notch- professional, friendly, and willing to help. The property is in an excellent location. If you are going to DOCO or an event at Golden 1 Center, this place is in the middle of everything.
The room was underwhelming. The ceiling is low and covered in that 1980s cottage cheese/popcorn/acoustic foam, a clear indicator the property is in need of a major overhaul.
Also, the air conditioner, always another sign that a property has not been updated in decades. The A/C was one of those units on the wall under the window that is SUPER loud. I guess one perk is that you cannot hear any one else in the hotel, but it was too loud, and again, a completely outdated unit.
Our main issue was the type of bed offered. I booked a king with sofa bed, this was the only room type available at the time of booking.
I was traveling with a friend so we were certainly going to utilize this as a second bed. When we checked in we asked if they could have the bed made up by housekeeping while we were out. They said no, but that they would give us sheets. What?
We were kind of confused, but sure enough, a few minutes after getting into our room someone showed up with a bag of linens. We were told to make up the bed ourselves.
Seriously? We were bummed. I was traveling with a friend who has two kids and literally does laundry and make beds all day, this was supposed to be her break, yet here we were, in a hotel making up a bed. If I wanted to make my own bed I would stay home or rent and AirBnB.
To add further insult, the pull out bed was the absolute worst bed ever. Seriously, I have slept in $5 hostels in Bangkok that had better mattresses. I have no idea how old the mattress in the sofa bed was, but I can tell you that the frame was out for vengeance! There was no way to escape the horrific metal bars that made up the sofa bed.
If you can budget staying at a different hotel, do it, at least until this place has a much needed major remodel. There are a ton of brand new properties within a few blocks.
Pros: Friendly staff, great location
Cons: Old and loud A/C unit, dreadful sofa bed mattress, should be replaced ASAP & not offered as an alternative to an actual mattress

We stayed 3 nights for my husbands hospital appoints at UC Davis.Hotel is worn tired & lacks any welcome.I messaged ahead & asked for early check in as my husband is disabled no chance despite being a gold rewards member no flexibility in check in or checkout! First room we were given was on 6th floor & traffic was really noisy so moved to 4th floor which was much better. On the second night the room next door began to play loud music & party at 1.30am Security attended twice & the room did not go quite until after 3am.
There was no sit down breakfast just a to go option which was really slow & expensive for biscuits & gravy an omelette 1 orange juice & 2 coffees it was over $45 & I waited 45 minutes for it to be ready.
This was not indicated on the hotel website.
Nobody apologised to us for the party noise or check we were ok after such a disturbed night & the ladies on reception seemed uninterested in guests or in there jobs they are untidy in their appearance & as the they give the first impression of the hotel it’s very poor.
The rooms are not being cleaned due to COVID unless you make a special request??????We did not have this explained at check in.
This is by far the worst Holiday Inn we have stayed in terrible guest service the hotel was not busy as this was a mid week stay.

Dear jenettedavies, You are right in expecting meticulous accommodations and service and we apologize that fell short of expectations. We sympathize with your frustrations and would like to assure you that we will be communicating your review to our team so we may amend it to enhance guest satisfaction. Our housekeeping is now available by request. We know that comfort levels may vary when it comes to people entering your space during a pandemic. Now you can simply contact the front desk to request a room cleaning or just a few extra towels. Additionally, I’m sorry to hear that noise pollution interrupted the comfort of your stay and that we did not respond with empathy. Should your travels bring you back to Sacramento, we hope you will think of us. Sincerely, Barry M. Miller General Manager

Pros: clean hotel & rooms (besides greasy hand prints all over the windows), friendly staff, walking distance to numerous venues.
Cons: self parking is confusing as there are many parking garages around the block, staff is either not very knowledgeable or deceitful, and rooms are so noisy it is almost impossible to sleep. I have stayed in many, many hotels/motels/inns and a lot are close to or next to freeways. Based on other reviews I knew freeway noise was an issue so I requested a room away from the freeway (you must call them to request this as the online reservations only let you request near/away from elevator). When checking in I confirmed that our room was away from the freeway. The clerk acknowledged this and we schlepped our bags up to our room. Turns out we were on the freeway side with only two rooms closer to the freeway than ours! Complete opposite of what I requested or wanted. We did not request a room change as we were on a time crunch to get to an event. Needless to say I got very little sleep and would not go back to this hotel. Tip: even # rooms are on the parking garage side (not facing freeway) and lower numbers 00-15 are farther away from freeway. Our room was #1527.

The location is the best thing about this hotel: it is within walking distance of almost everything downtown. The front desk staff was also really friendly and helpful.
However, everything else is mediocre at best. After checking-in in the lobby with decors that make it feel like the 90s, we took a slow elevator ride up to the dimly-lit hallway that leads up to our room, which, just like the lobby, was in desperate need of a renovation. I could see the staff clearly did their best to clean the room, but the old carpet, the yellowed power outlets that don't hold plugs, stained surface of the sofa chair, and the chipped edge of the writing desk clearly needed more than just regular cleaning. When night came, the biggest problem revealed itself: the window was far from sound proof. Although we stayed on the 15th floow, we could still hear the loud noise of cars and motorcycles passing on the I-5 overpass next to the hotel.
To sum up, this hotel has great potential given its unbeatable location, but I wouldn't recommend it in its current state because of the dated amenities and the noise level in rooms.

We stayed at this hotel for my daughter's birthday and wanted it to be special. This hotel looked good walking in to the lobby, but we found they did not pay attention to details. We paid a bit more for a room with a balcony, which consisted of two lounge chairs outside the sliding glass door. Not our idea of a balcony. Not that we would use it, but the clock could not be set to the correct time, but again, when you are paying top dollar for a room details are important. We did get some afternoon drinks and they were ok, not outstanding, but, again, the service was good. We got some tea in the morning and the "hot water" was barely luke warm. We went to the pool in the morning, where there was a DJ the night before, and there was a lemon from a drink on the ground. The restrooms had not been cleaned and were disgusting. The service was very good, but for the price it should be. We valeted our car, a Tesla, and it was never put on a charger, The service was never offered. The beds were comfortable and the room looked upgraded. I travel a lot and know that what makes a hotel different are the details. Hotel rooms all look the same. The. area is not too bad. Not many homeless. It is near Old Sacramento and the basketball arena.

I can’t guarantee anything anywhere, but many people choose to walk to/from local events and dining options. Anyone with steer smarts should be fine.
Yes. We stayed there with our little dog in September.
With Sacramento's warmer climate, the pool is not heated. Smoking is permitted outside of the building.
Recommend you call the hotel OR request in the notes to management at the end of the online reservation
Yes. Coffee maker is a Kuerig.
As a previously certified programmer for a Univac 1100, GE440, and Fortran 77 It was confusing on how to execute the 12 step auto start sequence for the Kuerig especially not having had a cup of coffee yet, but eventually worked out. Made a decent cup of Joe unlike those feckless and pathetic drip makers in other hotels.
