We take our adult kids and their fiancé s on an annual trip and this year chose amador county for its wonderful wines. We booked the American exchange hotel, because we've stayed there in the past and love it. The folks who run it could not be better - truly great service. One of our only issues was upon check in.... This historic hotel is located in the heart of Amador County's Sutter Creek. Its in-house restaurant is very popular and the favorite local bar is located in the basement. I couldn't get over how friendly everyone was! The hotel rooms are surprisingly modern. The bedrooms maintain their original charm with century-old photos on the walls and antique (or replicas?) furniture,... More

Stayed at the American Exchange over the weekend. Quaint little piece of History! The reservation process is a little difficult because they're only there to take reservations on the weekend, but in the end, it was fine! The beds were amazingly comfortable with plenty of fluffy pillows. The rooms are small, but very quiet. No coffee maker or refrigerator in... More

I was looking for a quiet place to stay over a weekend...this was not it! There is live entertainment Friday and Saturday nights which didn't end until around 11pm. I was also awakened at 4am by "party-goers" having a party on the veranda which was 2 doors down from me. When I complained to the hotel staff they said nothing... More

We stayed in a queen bed room on the second floor and were pleasantly surprised at the level of comfort for $99 for the night. The room wasn't large but it was very clean, quiet, the lighting and temperature controls were quite good, there was free wireless internet, and the bathroom had a large shower with good hot water. Our family rented the entire second floor for a family reunion. The veranda overlooking Main St. was a perfect gathering spot that gave us a grand view of all the action down on the street level. All of the rooms on the second floor have been renovated and tastefully redecorated. (I was not on the third floor so I can't... More

We decided on a weekend getaway in the last minute and needed a place to stay overnight in order to sample the 30+ wineries in the Amador region. If you are like us and care more about wine tasting than splurging on an expensive hotel room or B&B, this hotel is for you. It is located right on Main street... More

We've stayed in several lovely B&Bs in the area, but this hotel was was perfect for a one-night stay for a quick getaway during which we participated in the Behind the Cellar Door winery event. The hotel is clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. The rooms are small, but well appointed and very comfortable. The bathroom shower was terrific. We'll be... More

We were very pleased with our stay at the American Exchange. We stayed in Room 207 and it was very clean, comfortable and updated. We had a private bathroom (shower only), which was very clean and stylish. The rooms on the 2nd floor have private baths and the rooms on the 3rd floor somehow share a bathroom(s). The front desk... We were driving up to Tahoe but the pass was closed for avalanche control so we couldn't get there and had to take refuge in Sutters Creek. In panic, as we had 3 children in the car, we stopped at the first hotel we saw and were lucky that it was the American Exchange. Beautiful rooms, extremely helpful and friendly... More
